For those who remember Pointcast what happened to it and what ever happened to "push technology"? Does anyone know of a similar program for OS X? Original version available on the OS 8 SSW CD ROM.

I think Point cast and PUSH died a slow and painful death a long time ago. I think the problem was, no one really wanted to be PUSH'd advertisements.

PointCast is still out there under a different name as a paid subscription service--at least, this was a few months ago when I last saw anything about them.

Push technology is still there for software distribution.
folding@home is good for you.

They are called infogate now. I am surprised that they are still surviving, their services seem expensive to me..

I miss PointCast. Didn't know anybody else cared and figured that was part of their problem. I never found the ads intrusive, but always doubted they were making any money off the venture. Of course, I was using Windows back then. Did they ever have a Mac OS client?

As far as I was concerned, it was a misnomer. I mean, I guess you could call it "Push"... but really... it was still "Pull" because it grabbed information based on what you requested (setup in pref's) and it ran locally on your machine.

It would go and "Grab" the data types you desired. It wasn't really "pushed" to you.

Maybe I'm splitting hairs... but it never seemed accurate to me.
