Hey guys, thanks in advance for the help. When I receive a text and choose not unlock my phone to read it, I get another text alert about a minute later. The screen stays dark on my phone, like it's letting me know for a second time that I have an unread text message. I have SMS preview enabled.

Does anybody else have this problem? Have you figured out a way to disable it? This is an extreme nuisance when I'm in the car or in another situation where I don't want to unlock my phone every time I receive a text. I'm getting twice as many alerts for the number of texts I receive!

I've noticed the same thing. I'm wondering if this is a feature or a bug. I can understand why you'd want it to periodically alert you of a new message, but there definitely should be a way to shut that off. And since there isn't (that I know of), it makes me think it was a mistake.

Luckily I don't get enough text messages for it to be annoying. (no one loves me)

Shoot, that's what I was afraid of! Thanks, guys.

I also have no idea what Apple was thinking...

Uhh, probably responding to the bazillion people who asked for repeat notification of missed texts and calls, like every other phone out there.

This was one of the listed features of the 2.1 update. I'm really glad about it!

Apple sucks.

They should have given us a preference that lets you customize how many repeat notifications you get, and in what intervals.

The lack of customization on the iPhone is really sad, especially compared to all the great software available

Come on now turtle.... you know better than to ask Apple for options! Steve knows what's best for you...

I don't mind the feature, but I'd love a toggle to turn it off at the very least.

This and the fact that iTunes 8 took out the option to not view Genre while browsing your music makes me scratch my head. Why have this option in one version, and then take it out completely in the next?

Grrr.

It isn't a bug and you can't shut it off. It was also listed as one of the changes in 2.1.

It will notify you at 5 min and 15 if you don't read it.

it's annoying. I like the feature, but you should be able to turn it off. also, I'd like to be able to alter the number of times it beeps, and possibly specify the frequency of intervals. fyi, just in case apple's reading this.

The terminal command DOES remove the Genre column - thankfully. Why they would remove that option I have no idea.

And the repeat text message warnings are AWFUL. Sometimes I like to just look down at the text message on my locked phone screen - now I have to unlock the phone to acknowledge the text, or it rings again....

My old Motorola V3X did this, I think it was every 30 mins continuously until I read the message or acknowledged a missed call. No way to turn it off on there either.
