I've had my new G5 for just a few days now, but I already have to say "goodbye" to iMac.

Turns out that Apple messed up and sent me a G5 with only 512mo RAM instead of the 1Go that I ordered. I called Apple, who quickly admitted to a screw-up. I expected that they would simply send me the missing RAM, but instead they need to take back the entire machine and replace it was a correctly configured one.

I guess I'm back in the queue again.

Delivered late this afternoon. That's about two and a half days for delivery. Terrific.
I can't say enough about the new imac. I'm blown away. Just writing this on my G4, the old screen is dark, grainy, small. The 20" is absolutley stunning. Dead quiet too. Solid, not tippy at all.
Fast, everything opens quick. And switching from OS 9 to X is great, so many new things to explore. Well worth the wait, and the bucks.

Any chance of a photo of your girlfriend in her socks? Sounds more interesting than yet another photo of an iMac on a desk.

I ordered my mom the new iMac with the 1.6 G5 about a week ago. How is the back order/delay looking on these machines? I had to wait close to 3 month for my G5, so I just don't wana go thru that again!

Anyone order theirs about a week ago? what's your estimate for shipping date?

Thanks

No word yet from Apple on when it might ship.

Starting to get PO'ed. Sure all will be forgotten once it's here, but still...
For those in Asia/those still waiting on long lost custom 17-inch iMacs, I just received word that both my orders (1 September, 11 September) shipped simultaneously.

The courier is Bax Global. I can't get Bax's tracking system to work, but Apple promises delivery to HK in three days. We'll see.

Well, credit the couriers, the iMacs made it here in 48 hours.

That's not counting the 40-plus days it took Apple to make 'em...

But, finally, they're home!

You lucky thing! I ordered my BTO 20" 9/17 (shipping by 10/15) and I still haven't heard anything - I was sure I'd hear something by today, even if it was that they have to put my estimated shipping date back!

Wish my iMac would ship. History so far:

- 6 Sept: Ordered from NL online store, told would ship on or before 4 Oct
- 4 Oct: Told would ship on or before 8 Oct
- 8 Oct: Told would ship on or before 15 Oct
- 14 Oct: Told would ship on or before 22 Oct

Why can't Apple just be honest, instead of stringing me along, week-by-week? Guess they think I might cancel my order and buy something else if I knew the truth...

So was mine, in fact it was an Apple Higher Education order - so it should have had HIGHER priority

Phoned Apple today and just received an E-mail back

As per our conversation earlier today, I am corresponding to you via email. I have raised your question internally and I have been advised that these iMacs are due to ship at the end of next week
Still haven't seen any change in my Online Order Status - I couldn't care less about 'these iMacs' - mine is a BTO, I'm just interested in 'my iMac'.

I received an email from Apple today. I ordered my 17" 1.8GHz with the BT keyboard + mouse option. Placed order on 10-1-04 and it shipped today. Delivery scheduled for 10-20-04. A 2 week wait isn't bad at all.

Lucky you, I just received an E-mail from Apple telling me that my BTO 20" iMac G5 (BTkbrd+mse) ordered 9/17, due to ship today 10/15, now isn't due to ship until 10/27! To say I'm p****d off is an understatement. I know I'm not the only one here who has had their delivery put back but to wait 4 weeks and then be told the day it's due to ship that you have to wait another 12 days(+ the actual delivery time which could be a week plus) is a lot to take. I'm going to sleep on it over the weekend but am seriously considering cancelling the order - at the quickest it looks as though I'd have to wait just a week shy of 2 months in total.

OK, OK, I take it all back. After sleeping on it over the weekend and resigning myself to waiting an extra 3 weeks or so, what should happen but I received an E-mail today from Apple to say that my 20" iMac G5 BTO has shipped.

I also just received a call from my credit card company to check that the transaction was kosher. According to the online shipment status the order was picked up from Shanghai at 18.00 on 10/17 (GMT) - it should have shipped on 10/15, so 2 days late isn't too bad at all - strange that the online status didn't update till after I recived the E-mail (10/18). Can't wait for it to get here!

Ordered my 20" (std Ram, BT pack) 8/10/04 - despatch is quoted on or before 5/11/04, but I'm hoping a little earlier which seems to be the usual.

is there a higher demand on the 16 vs the 20"?? Has anyone gotten a 16" delivered quickly yet?

It looks like Apple is deleting the shipping status threads over on their discussion boards (understandably), so here's an update on mine that I had originally posted there:

20" / BT / Airport Express / 160G HD / 256mbs RAM
Ordered: October 1st
Shipped: October 22nd
Toronto, Canada

A week early - pretty exciting. Now let's see how long it takes to get here...

My 20" (info posted above) made it as far as Memphis, and went through customs ("Int'l Shipment Release"), but then stopped moving a couple of days ago.

I called FedEx and they're doing a trace to find out the whereabouts. It was estimated for delivery today by 12PM; I have a feeling that's not going to be happening. Sigh.

4 Business days out from my estimated ship date and no word about any kind of early shipping yet. I'm not convinced it'll even go on its ship date. I really want to transfer all my stuff from my old Sawtooth 400 G4 over to it and sell that friggen thing already.

With the new Apple store opening in Syracuse the 6th of November I may find myself carrying one home with me if they actually have any in stock and mine hasn't shipped yet and gets pushed back.

My iMac arrived this morning. Woo-hoo!

No pixel problems, and very quiet, without the whine issue that some people had been complaining about. My only complaint is it isn't as huge of a speed jump as I had expected, but it's still a beautiful machine... I'm pleased.

Again, this was a 20" with BT, AirPort Extreme, and stock ram and hard drive. I then put 2G of OWC ram in it. Shipped to Toronto.

My mom said it showed up last night at 6pm! Ordered it (1.6/17") exactly 1 month ago, blue tooth and 1GB are the only options.

Now, I gotta fly out to Cali to hook it up (all one wire! )
