Google has brought its One Today charity app, which debuted originally on Android in July, to iOS devices. The app focuses on a different charity every day, presenting the user with information about its mission and easy ways to donate to it, encouraging users to give $1 (or more) to a charity that interests them. Donations can be shared with social networks or kept private, and are all tax deductible.

"Want to be inspired and help change the world at the same time? One Today is an app that lets you give a little and change a lot," the app's promo copy says. The app also offers the ability to invite friends to donate to a particular cause, or to challenge people to match a donation. All donations for 2013 will be grouped together at the end of the year for tax purposes.

The app itself is free, and available now on the iOS App Store. It should be noted that about two percent of any donation is withdrawn from the final amount given as a processing fee, but this is a normal part of credit-based transactions and still means that 98 cents of every dollar goes to the chosen charity. Users can find out more about a given charity's own administrative costs and percentages through the app.

so apple isn't taking their usual 30% for IAP for this app? or does it get a pass to use another non-Apple payment system?

This is a good question, but to the best of my knowledge, Apple has traditionally waived the 30 percent IAP take for apps that raise money for legitimate charities. I'll see if I can find out anything more on that.

There is a lot of misinformation about fees including in this article. While Google Wallet takes 2% (1.9% to be exact), there is also a fee taken by Network For Good which is 4.75%. In this case it's probably less since Google Wallet does the processing. I'm assuming the 30% fee is waived?
