I too am having issues with my gmail account showing up as a regular account. And just like biscuit, if I delete it, it comes right back when I restart Adium. Does anyone know how to resolve this?

I had this problem because I was in my own gmail addressbook... Removing myself from my gmail contacts list (NOTE: not my GTalk buddy list) fixed the problem for me...

Any idea when 1.0 is going to be officially released? They have been on .89.1 for ever and I don't really feel like playing around with a potentially buggy 1.0.

For those of you who use 1.0, what are the big differences? Is it worth the potential bugs?

Thanks

1.0 is basically done. Unfortunately we've been having trouble with our bug tracking system (i.e. it going down like every other day), so we're trying to get that fixed before releasing 1.0rc1.

I've been using the beta for months now, and I've experienced no bugs at all.

As for the differences, things just look better, it's better organized, you can see custom smilies using MSN, among many other things I'm probably forgetting...

I'd just install it. If in the very rare case you actually find an earth shattering bug, you can go back to using 0.89.1.

I downloaded 1.0 and it is very cool, thanks for the advice guys. What are the cool features I should be looking out for/searching for? I'm sure there is some really cool stuff in here, I just don't know what it is. I do like the new logs.

One I'm particularly happy with (note: slight bias may exist because I wrote part of this feature ) is in the advanced prefs contact list section; The 'hide on screen edges' checkbox causes the contact list to autohide like the dock.

Depends heavily on 1) what protocol you're using, 2) what program they're using, 3) how you're hooked up to the internet, 4) how they're hooked up to the internet, 5) the phase of the moon. It should be better in the 1.0 betas than in 0.89.1, but it's still not exactly universally reliable.

i've been facing this over and over again.. everytime time i reboot i mean

The contacts for my groups don't seem to save (like it returns to default) for eg. I insert contact "adam" under Yahoo! but it'll kinda escape and go under individuals or random. But i thought i deleted that group already.. It's like contacts don't stay where i put them in which i last left off. Not all but maybe recent added contacts or other messengers like yahoo, ICQ.. My primary usage would be its MSN.

0.89.1 is my version. help.

instead, should i got for beta 1.0b24 until c is released?

Mine is pretty simplistic...

Active on top, away/idle in the middle, cell phones on the bottom. I have 5 accounts logged into that screen. I don't really care who's on what account or what client they're using. It all looks the same when I talk to them. Of course it tells you what name you're IMing from if you really want to know anyway.

I don't sort by online and away idle because so many people now a days (including myself) keep themselves on away when they are really there. So I just keep my list alphabetical divided into two groups, friends at my current university (studying abroad) and all other friends, college back home, high school, etc. Sorted alphabetically. I'm pretty stingy about my buddy list, I deleted people I don't talk to anymore, so I only have 50 buddies. So the list of people online never exceeds the height of my screen.

I use the bubbles to tell me if they are online/away/idle. Buddies that are idle are slightly greyed out.

And I definitely don't sort by client. Doesn't matter to me if I'm talking to them on AIM or MSN.

It doesn't have the cool "msg bubbles" that pop up when you get a msg.

I find it to be a fantastic program. This is what it does. Lets say you have adium minimized or hidden and you are in the middle of a chat, however at the moment you are looking at another program that is in front of adium. Growl is like a pop-up and it has a box that pops up in front of the program you are using teliing you what the instant message says. it is very useful. i will upload a pic later.

Growl dodgy? Growl is the best thing since sliced bread. Much better than to have a different style of popups from ever application. It's like the missing system service that should have been built in.

Adium is not iChat: it works differently. If you want iChat, then use iChat.

Its different. Certainly not dodgy. I feel like a lot of switchers make similar complaints about OS X in general. Just because something is different does not mean that it is necessarily better/worse.

I guess I'm more curious as to how the person who originally said that it was dodgy actually feels that it's dodgy. "it's not like ichat" doesn't give us something we can work with so that we can try to fix whatever makes it feel "dodgy"

I mean not as "smooth"

When you get a msg in iChat a small window popsup telling you who it is from etc. You click on that window and the msg opens up.

I think that is really slick. Growl works similar, but not as slick.

Growl is a "slick" as it gets. If you like iChat than use iChat, but I think Adium has a huge edge over iChat. We have tabbed browsing, you can set up more accounts and there are unlimited things you can do to messages styles and contact list.

Congratulations on the 1.0 release. I've been using the 1.0betas for a while. One thing that I miss though, and that everyone seems to be missing too, is the support for Personal Messages on the MSN protocol. I know that it all boils down to libgaim. I hope that it will be implemented soon as i'm tired of not having filetransfer capabilities on Jabber with an MSN transport. And custom smileys too of course.

Here's to many more releases from the Adium devs!!

Oh I agree! I've been using Adium for the past 3 or so years. I haven't launched iChat in a awhile.

There is just features in iChat I'd like to see in Adium.

And there is NOTHING wrong with wanting that. No need to get over-denfensive. It's just software.

I have three videos on my site highlighting various aspects of Adium, including using Xtras. I also found that Adium has videos themselves. If you are interested in using Adium, some of these may help you as there are a lot of options available for the application.

Speaking of Growl, it doesn't work for me at all. Adium is enabled in the Growl prefpane, I'm using Growl 0.7.6 and Adium 1.0, etc etc... and I have the same problem with other apps too (Safari, App Update, etc), though others work (NewsFire, PandoraBoy, etc).

Message history now draws from the logs, for a number of reasons (not the least of which was that saying logging was off but still storing messages is a very misleading behavior). So if you have logging off, message history won't work. This will be clarified in the UI in a future version (i.e. message history will be grayed out unless you have logging on, and the two checkboxes will be next to each other).

But isn't the current behavior much more misleading? In my mind I don't consider message history to be a log. Perhaps it is in a strict sense, but I just don't look at it that way. I don't want a permanent log. That's why I have it turned off. However, I do like to have the last 5 to 10 lines of a conversation in message history just to re-establish "context". Now it appears that I can no longer do this. Which is IMO a reduction in functionality.

I agree that it would be nice to be able to do that again, but this separate storage model we had before is just wrong (it caused bugs and performance issues, as well as being misleading in the way I described above). Perhaps an alternative would be to only store the last log file for each user? I'd have to figure out how to avoid cluttering prefs*, but it could work...

*we have too many prefs, so things that add more make me unhappy.
