Use an iMac as a second screen?

I have a new 15" Al book which is perfect for most of the writing / editing stuff I do. But there are a few things it would be nice to have more screen real estate for: InDesign and Photoshop in particular. Our office has a couple of low used iMacs and I was wondering if one of them can be set up as a second screen.
One is the iMac Special Edition DV, the other is the more recent white base with LCD on an arm (I think it's a 15" screen). I was thinking it would be really nice to have the use of the Special Edition screen for photo editing since it's a CRT.
We use wired ethernet and airport to connect machines.
Is this possible? Thanks in advance for any help, even if it's just to say no way...at least that would save me messing around for hours trying to figure it out!

I dont believe that is possible on the iMacs without taking the whole machine apart. And even if you take it apart I believe the display connection is either soldered on or has a special clip or something.

I think a better option is to shell out $30 for a cheap 17" CRT.

if you really want to do it with a CRT imac, you would have to take it apart, and there is a VGA, or it looked exacly like one, with pins moved or something.

New 17" CRTs are well under $100 and there could be some places that would sell you a 15" for like $50.
Your best bet is to get one of those.

Thanks, I didn't realize they are so cheap. I'll take your advice.
