I just grabbed a brand spanking new battery for my one year old G4 PowerBook since I'm off on holiday shortly.

So any ideas on how to condition it? Earlier I was told to discharge the new battery to zero, and only then recharge it.

Also - and perhaps more importantly - I'm travelling to Berlin for a few weeks soon, and thats why I grabbed a new battery - did Apple ever fix that sleep problem, meaning since I'm a full time OS X dude, can I swap a dead battery for a new one while my PowerBook sleeps?

Or do I have to do a *full*shutdown?

Damn. That would cause problems at the cafe.

Please advise and thanks for your help!

Take care

I've not had any problems with battery swapping since 10.1.0 on this Ti 667 (2001).

Additionally I just charged up my second battery and used it out of the box. Both batteries (factory and extra) perform to the same level.

"Memory effect" is gone on lithium-ion batteries. Older batteries needed to be conditioned. These don't.

Indeed. In fact, it's bad for LiIon batteries to be deep-discharged (as when a PowerBook is left on till it turns off, and then left in sleep until it shuts off).

The only "conditioning" you may want to do (but it will do this automatically in normal use) is to fully charge it and then use it up so that the battery meter will be calibrated.

It's definitely not good for the battery to be completely discharged. I've had batteries that have lost a lot of capacity after being left empty for a few months.
