Why is it that my .mac email address is actually a @mac address at .com. I originally had the impression that .mac would become another domain like .com, .net, .org, .us etc. Is it just me or wouldn't that just make sense. Don't get me wrong I'm trying my best to accept the .mac thing with all its features, I paid my fee, I'm a member. I just hope they get this thing right or its just gonna end up like a lot of those failed ...ahh...whats the word, .coms.

apple can't create a new last 3 digit name (or 2 digit) internet address. some internet standard board does it (i think).

and they call it .mac because its sort of a shot at msft's .net

so don't expect .mac anytime soon. even if you got it what would your email address be [email protected]? that doesn't make too much sense... maybe [email protected] =)

Yep, that's correct. Apple can't just define a new TLD (Top Level Domain), this has to be done by the ICANN.
All Steve can do is to make a proposal during the next ICANN meeting, but I don't think that .mac will ever become a TLD. Because if this ever happens, everybody would be able to register himself a .mac Domain.

Yet another reason why .mac was a really idiotic name for this service.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Because you're only paying a whopping $4 a month for the whole package.

LOL sigh.. apple apple apple
DOS Computers manufactured by companies such as IBM, Compaq, Tandy, and millions of others are by far the most popular, with about 70 million machines in use worldwide. Macintosh fans, on the other hand, may note that cockroaches are far more numerous than humans, and that numbers alone do not denote a higher life form. -- New York Times, November 26, 1991

As if subdomains and virtual hosting costs anymore than what they're already doing...
