Ok
There was an old thread that went on back in Feb 2000, that I found and reviewed with interest.
Basic Problem: How to take snapshots of my favorite DVD movies so I can make computer desktop images?
The quick and dirt was that the decoding was done through the Drive and there was something about a green screen. Also points about copyright protection.
Also there was a suggestion to try Ambrosia Snapz Pro 2.0.1 found it on www.versiontracker.com pulled it down same thing It can't capture the DVD images.
I guess the solution that presents itself is that I need to pull the DVD in from hardware like a capture card or converter box. A clunk but working solution.
Open to thoughts? Random ideas? Etc.

Yes, its copy protection by drawing over a allocated area of the screen (usually seen as green or blue). It works kinda like the blue/green scenes they use for movies and television to isolate a character to later be inserted into other video. The easiest way to capture it is to convert it to an analog signal and capture it on another device, however you are loosing a lot of the quality of the DVD...so this is also seen as a deterrent.

Of course there is a way to get the actual digital output. It involves the illegal software DeCSS and is a bit more difficult and time consuming than merely making a screen capture.
Basically, you have to decode a whole chapter of the DVD, save to your hard drive as MPEG2 video, open in Quicktime Player and capture from there.

Well I have the Apple DVD Player v2.4 on my PowerBook G4 and I can take screenshots of DVD screens. The trick is to start playing the movie and wait for the DVD Control to go away, then press Shift-Command-3 to take a screenshot.

Damn you're right. I even converted the image while the DVD was still in there and did a screenshot on the image on screen.
Sorry about the false alarm.

Is there anyway of downloading DVD Player 2.4. I just bought an Apple Powerbook G3 and I would like to upgrade from 2.3 to 2.4.
DVD Player 2.3 just doesn't seem to look right, the DVD has no brightness/contrast controls, so the movie looks washed out and overbright.

Actually I think it's up to 2.5, but I don't know of any download for it.

Is DVD Player 2.5 Release Candidate, Final, or still in beta?

DVD player 2.5 is probably a Ti specific update to incorporate the widescreen feature
