HELLO MY ELECTRIC FRIENDS,

i have an ol' timey mac G4 quicksilver (800 mhz) power computer and just upgraded to tiger 10.4
i had 10.3.9 for a very long time.

i did a basic upgrade / install of tiger 10.4

the main problem i now have is itunes will not fire up.
it gives me a message of having to upgrade to 10.4.9.

is this really necessary? how do i upgrade to 10.4.9
am i funknfluggolherndded?
also - my machine's internet videos (youtube, hulu) are still running choppy and out of sync. i thought that by uprading to 10.4 this would've been solved. any help would be monumentally appreciated.

thanks!

download and install the 10.4.9 update
Apple - Downloads - Mac OS X Updates - Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update (PPC)

I doubt you'll find much Youtube or Hulu that runs well on your Mac. Youtube plays mostly Flash video (and I think Hulu is the same), and unfortunately Flash is notoriously poor-performing on Macs, especially older ones like yours.

Actually, you should go all the way to 10.4.11 (and then run software update again (repeatedly), to get SecurityUpdate 2009-005, QuickTime 7.6.4, Safari 4.0.4, several Java updates [up through 'release 9'], plus some other items [iLife, AirPort, etc.]).

At least that's what i'd do/recommend.

No point in downloading the update manually - just go to the Apple menu and choose Software Update... and it will grab all the relevant updates for you. As Hal said, it's a good idea to run it again after your computer reboots to get any additional updates that needed to have previous updates installed first before they could be installed.

As for youtube/hulu content being choppy, you can thank Adobe for their wonderful Flash plugin.

I'd recommend a MacBook Pro instead. The base model is the same price as the base iMac, the portability is great, and the multi-touch trackpad is awesome.
