There's now a more detailed explanation of how the window iconizing works. It's different than how iconizing will work as reported by the rumor sites.

There's also a short animation posted of this powermac.

Does it work?

Forget the entire theme.

A utility that gave a boarder to the top window, or all windows as an option, would absolutely rule!

However, as a Quartz addition, it would probably have a bit of speed penalty.

It's not a theme that I can see, it's a concept, the guy's an illustrator/designer. Unless someone can point me to the theme?

I contacted him, he said its just a PSD mockup but that he is really interested in figuring out how the iconizing could be implemented.

That looks like something that is done on several *nix GUIs (specifically IRIX from my experience). Its a nice feature if you have multiple monitors and/or don't use your desktop for anything more than a pretty background like me.

I wonder if there are any BSD apps that add this type of functionality. I imagine that they could be ported over to OS X quite easily (if they haven't been already).

i may be wrong, but pics I've seen on the web of early 10.2 builds seem to include an ability to tear minimized windows from the dock and keep them as minimized icons anywhere on the screen. Looks like Apple is already thinking about this stuff.

Oh my god! That's beautiful!

They all told me that borders on windows would be ugly, and i believed them. How wrong can one man be?

The borders are beautiful. They remind me of the transparent frame around the new iMac display... should compliment the new iMacs nicely.

I, for one, would love to see those borders on windows. It would be fuggin awesome if Apple would include this as an option in the core OS. The iconizing looks very useful as well.

Two great ideas that most definitely should be a part of OS X.

(Someone should at least write a control panel type thing for the window border. Having to install an entire theme to get such as great option would be a drag for us non-theme-types.)[/LIST]

I wasn't real sure how I liked the tear-off windows from the dock idea, but looking at this snapshot tear-off windows seem to make a good workspace.

Synotic made a bordered OS X theme for 10.0. Borders only work in Carbon though and he probably won't let anyone see it or know how it was done. Cool anyway.
New sig coming soon. Yes, it will violate the sig guidelines :p

It was just based on someone else's Paper theme for Public Beta, I *think* it *might* have been Dave's, not sure. I just copied over the layo and pxm#s and modified from there.

That's be pretty cool. Apple doesn't have the balls to even think about it though. It's too bad they're so conservative these days. I really like X and all, but I always had this dream that the interface would be revolutionary. Instead it's something that wants to be licked. Yum.

Beautiful??

That looks absolutely horrid.

Not only that, but it makes windows even bigger and bulkier. It's bad enough as it is.

Huh? X's windows can be just like 9's (take away the toolbar), but without the borders. (ie - less bulky...right?)

BRING BACK THE BULK! (or at least give us an option for the bulk)

I like the concept of those translucent draggable borders , but only as an option .
But I would love to see the dragging-miniwindows-out-of-the-dock feature ! Awesome .

Draggable Mini-windows would be great. I see a nice animation of it as well where they shrink down and fall as if they were falling back into the desktop, with maybe a littel splash ripple when they hit their final position.

hahaha! I have a wonderful movie in my head now, of the desktop picture distorting with proper lighting effects and everything, and of icons on the desktop bobbing up and down as the waves pass under them...

Enlightenment (XFree86) has a similar feature, though I found it distracting....
