*intense swearing*
The delivery service put my D-9 blu ray – instead of depositing it at a neighbors' as they always do – in a self service center at the other end of the city.
I was rarely or ever anticipating a movie on home video that much, so: they forgot to put the damn piece of paper that holds the barcode for opening that damn thing in my damn post box.
I only now this by Amazon's package tracking.
My year is ruined! What can I Do?

Considering that most swine flu symptoms last approximately 72 hours, I think that is when he will *start* to care again.

Omens. I was just about to check the intarwebs, to get an update on everything. Then, I realise, non of my personal internetable devices are – you can only say scattered – scattered!
After some quick triangylation (dams the keys just seem to move around), I calculated that my MacBook was the nearest with an ETA of around 4 seconds. However, I went for the iMac at the other side of the flat.
Exhausted I sit, twining around the desperate thought – is this gonne be the dreadful, pitch-dark future year ahed of me. Time only, will tell, and will tell grim.
And where do I get swine flu?

Eight days of 40.5 C (104 F) plus another three weeks of recovering from the drain and the accompanying pneumonia, plus an unknown number of months for full-term recovery and possible long-term damage says you're full of shit.
Andreas, I'd help you out, but I'm no longer contagious.

Sorry. I guess I got mildly annoyed at the complete irrelevance of your complaint.
I'm primarily rather happy to be alive, so my perspective is understandably somewhat shifted from yours.

I have a feeling those ~50,000 or so people who started the new year off by getting variuos parts of their bodies blown off by unsafe fireworks would disagree with the OP in this thread.
Just sayin’.

If you mean District 9 that would suck. That's why I ended up getting it locally on the day of release, and got the steel case for it too.
OTOH, my Canadian version didn't come with the iTunes copy, which is annoying.

Your fault for not being a US Citizen. What were you thinking?

If your "year is ruined" by not receiving a video in the mail I would say you have much bigger problems than a missing video. Problems with having a life worth living, for starters.

I'd say the exact opposite. If the worst problem he has is not getting a quick delivery of a movie, then he has almost no true problems. His life is awesome!

My 2010 went downhill fast. Threw my back out bending over and twisting to reach into a cupboard while making waffles. I could hardly move for about 10 minutes, barely stand or sit after about a half hour. Barely taste the delicious waffles because of the pain.
I've never had a back problem in my life! Stupid 2010.

I spent almost the entire year 2009 in regular physiotherapy due to back problems.
I finally caved and ordered an Aeron chair for the studio, which will be completely rebuilt to more ergonomic standards.

Well, my sister called me this morning to tell me that she had rear ended someone with my pickup truck, and that she needed my insurance info. How is that for a start to 2010?

Please document your plans and results.
BTW, I tried an Aeron, but didn't like the non-padded lumbar support.

Exactly. He doesn't have any problems to speak of.
So he shouldn't be in here whining about the "Worst Beginning Of A Year". The beginning of his year is just fine. Now you have a reason to complain; Nothing is worse than throwing out your back. I've done it twice in my life and I was miserable for months both times it happened. Good Luck!

Wow, you had it hard! I know ~7 people that have had it, and they all had symptoms for about 3 days. Nothing worse than the common flu. I am not full of sh*t, you just had it tougher than most. I feel for you though; I'm glad that you are finally over all of that.

Apologies if I came off harsh.
Something tried its darndest for a week to kill me, and it came pretty close. I'll probably be dealing with consequences of some sort for months if not years.
I'm a little touchy about people putting it off as a common "flu" (which is not influenza).

I thought the order for your new car was cancelled, or maybe you had a fight with iTunes Genius and got owned but this?, heck, it would be worse if your Requiem for a Dream DVD was lost.
