I have a old G3 that I'd like to set up to record streaming audio at programmed times. It's in a shared workplace environment and other people log in from time to time to do non-CPU intensive tasks, so the application would have to function while I'm logged out of the Aqua interface. Seems like something that would run from the command line should work. Does anyone have any suggestions? It is a pre-USB G3 running Jaguar.

Thanks!

If it's streaming mp3, then look into streamripper, which I've used before with great success.

If it's a RealAudio or Windows Media stream, that sounds tougher, since I don't know of clients that run without a GUI. Upgrading to Panther (via XPostFacto if need be) to allow multiple simultaneous GUI users is another option maybe?

I'll try streamripper. I don't have much experience compiling, etc., but am willing to give it a go. I thought about trying the upgrade to Panther via XPostFacto, but since that is non-standard, I'm worried about introducing problems on that machine. Maybe later.

You could try to script Audio Hijack or WireTap to record at a specified time. It should work no matter what format the stream is in.
