What are those little circle thingies right to the right of each Inbox? They look like pie graphs. What are they supposed to represent?

besson3c!
Can you post a screenshot to show what you mean? When Mail is checking for new email or doenloading email, it will show a little progress circle type thing. Other than that, Mail just shows an indicator of how many new emails are in the inbox.
Have fun... Tony.

I have yet to see, and really miss, the little circle that indicates new mail is being received when Mail is first opened in Tiger. It does seem, however, that the swoosh sound also signifies completion of message downloads. Right/Wrong?

The quick "pie" shape you see when you click on a mailbox is Mail/Spotlight indexing the e-mails...

one of those thingys is an alert that appears when the mail app has trouble connecting to your mail server - like if you loose your internet connection. click it to get a message and make the thingy go away. i think it gives you the option of reconnecting.
the other one is just an indicator that mail is in the process of fetching the mail.
