I recently sold my 1.83 and bought a new 2.0 with 7200RPM drive. This machine keeps freezing randomly and I'm attaching the crash report from the last few times. Would appreciate if someone could make sense out it and let me know what could be wrong

Remove the extra RAM and see if the problem persists.

Kernel panics are caused by faulty RAM like 90% of the time (yes, even if you had it installed when you bought the book).

RAM isnt the problem. This was happening with the default RAM that shipped with the unit as well as the 2GB I had in my previous MBP. I've also formatted it a couple of times but that hasnt helped either.

Take it to a Genius bar and show them so they give you a new one, or send it back. If its not the ram and reinstalls don't fix it, its most likely something bad with/on the logic board.

YEp - if youve reinstalled a few times, and removed extra ram, then take it to a genius
I free'd my mind... now it won't come back.

Have you done at least one re-install of the system while running on RAM that you KNOW was okay (because you had it in the former machine)?

Because installing OS X with defective RAM can and will result in a corrupted install.

Yes sir- installed OS-X three times now- and have used different modules during installation with the same results. I've noticed that the system freezes more easily when its charging than when running on battery.

Just return it for a new one. If it isn't the ram why keep a new MacBook Pro that keeps crashing.

yeah my first mbp did that nothing helped, not even when i sent it back, and they replaced the mother board. getting a new one is my suggestion.

Its a BTO system which makes it a little more painful to get it replaced. Nevertheless, I've started working on doing just that. Thanks for everyone's responses

Actually, you should be glad that it's a BTO, that way you always get the latest revision of the hardware. (And hopefully less problems.)

Same problem here. And I've gone through the same set of troubleshooting steps. (AppleCare wanted me to use my machine in Safe Mode for a couple days, but that's just not realistic. You can't "use" your computer like that.)

If you get yours swapped, or a Genius tells you something helpful, I would be very interested to hear. This is driving me NUTS.

FYI - mine is a week 20 stock configuration.

I went to the local Apple service center and showed them the crash reports and all. They will be changing the logic board on my machine. Hope that solves it!

What's the turnaround time on that? Guess they want to replace the board rather than give you an entirely new MBP?
