I have an office full of Windows machines, and a MAC Mini (PPC) as part of my home theater system. The mini has been so solid, we decided to get the new IMAC for my wife's primary computer.

2.4Ghz Model with the 320 GB HDD

So far I am just getting things set up and running.

Bought one also, it replaced my 1.25Ghz Dual G4 Power Mac. Funny how it is more powerful, it was the the top of the line 5 years ago

Just Start Using Cap Locks And Nobody Will Correct You When Saying Mac, You'll Just Sound A Lot More Aggressive.

EDIT: AWWWWWWWW MAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO CAP LOCKS EVEN FOR KICKS?

EDIT2: WEIRD MACNN DOESNT LET ME TYPE IN CAPS FOR MY FIRST SENTENCE, BUT THESE ARE FINE WITHOUT ANY HICCUPS
NOW YOU SEE ME! 2.4 MBP and 2.0 MBP (running ubuntu)

I think that any post that is completely caps will be de-capsified, but if you edit your earlier post, you have one "regular" sentence in there already, so the rewrite isn't triggered.

Let's get back on thread guys. I bought a new iMac yesterday too. Got the 2.4Ghz with 320GB drive.

I've been playing with all the cool software, iMovie, iDVD, iWeb, Keynote and Numbers and I'm simply blown away by the elegance of this software. I don't care what anyone thinks of iMovie 08 or the grumbling about Numbers, I think this is simply outstanding software that, for most people, will blow anything else away and that includes Office 2007.

I love it!

I got my 20" 2.4 over the weekend. I hummed a' hawd over the glossy screen debate and reflections but so far it's not an issue in my house. Your eyes end up concentrating on the content but I don't have any windows behind me. The quality of the screen seems fine despite being TN film LCD but then every $200-$400 LCD monitor is the same type of technolgy but they are matte.

Everything is so responsive compared to my iBook G4 1.2ghz. I had to calibrate the screen as the default iMac calibration is terrible. Why does Apple do that? Also, I had to set up the Mighty Mouse right button from its default. Why does Apple do that?

I still have to run all the updates then I'll be migrating my iPhoto and iTunes libraries over to the iMac.

I definitely need a USB hub. It's a pain reaching around to connect my camera or iPod. What's a good hub that matches the new iMac?

Thanks

Are you using the wireless keyboard? You don't say what type of keyboard you are using. There are two USB ports on the sides of the wired keyboard

Whenever I talk to a “switcher”, the first thing I tell them is to re-calibrate the display. I hate how for years Apple has been shipping its displays with such crappy default calibrations.

So how about telling these switchers HOW to calibrate their displays. I don't know how to do it myself-and with an MBP and now a 20" iMac, maybe I'd like to do it. Not that I see "crappy" pictures at all, but maybe this screen can look better.

Added: I just found some instructions in the MacBook forum-
System Preferences -->
Displays -->
Color -->
Calibrate

With a 2.2 gamma and a D65 white balance, my display DOES look richer and in general much better.

Whoa, my mattes look like my glossy MacBook! Sweet!

EDIT: Brightness: 0 (no knocks on the bar-thing*) on both displays.

Thanks for the tip on the Gamma, ghporter. I've see the difference between the Windows/TV gamma and the Mac one before, but not on this display, and it really does make a difference. I'm running a 24" 2.4 by the way, and the Mac gamma setting looks washed out compared to the Windows/TV setting.

So elwood, how are you liking your new iMac?
