That's what you get for using Yahoo! Mail. NO browser should support that.

Haven't actually tried, but it should work - the webkit.org nightlies come as (essentially) a copy of Safari that uses the latest version of WebKit (that's available opensource - right now 522.x isn't at webkit.org) instead of the system copy.

Or, one could (presumably) wait a day or two till 522.x shows up on webkit.org and install that alongside Safari 2.x
Let me see if I can find one, thanks.

The browser itself is nice. I'm noticing faster load times for pages.

The only problem I'm seeing is a refresh problem with the iChat addon, Chax. Multiple lines of text aren't displaying until a response is sent or if the mouse cursor is moved over the chat window.
I gotta have more cowbell.

Have you considered that maybe your online college doesn't work with it?

I opened up the package in pacifist to see what system changes it was making to force me to restart. It gives you a new version of the dock application with dashboard built into it. In my dock, dashboard has disappeared from the left side. It also installs a lot of frameworks for dashboard and new java frameworks.

One step closer to the new dock in Leopard!

Also there is a interesting new feature. If you have multiple tabs open and you ctrl-click or right click on one of the tabs it has an option to add bookmarks for x number of tabs. Interesting...

It seems pretty fast so far.

It now respects CSS styles for form buttons and menus; see the pop-up menu at the bottom of Apple.com.

Apple - Safari 3 Public Beta

Overwrites the current version, though it comes with an uninstaller.

Nice so far. Seems fast.

Find is implemented, as are the new tab features (dragging within-window and out-of-window).

Installs:
version 522.10.1 of WebKit (10.4.9 comes with 419)
updated version of JavaScriptCore (522.10 over 418.3 - incidentally, JSC appears to now get its own home in /System/Library/Frameworks/ instead of being a subframework of WebKit)
JavaScriptGlueFramework v. 522.6.2 (over 418)
WebKitForDashboard (private framework - contains only a single copy of WebKit 419 - presumably for compatibility with current dashboard widgets while allowing the new safari?)
updates Dock.app to 1.3.10 (from 1.3.9 - presumably so that Dashboard will look for the new location of webkit 419, rather than the old location, and possibly to allow dashcode to function - incidentally, not a complete version of the Dock.)

Safari is v. 3.0 (522.11)

Hope you folks are enjoying it. I can't say I intend to actually install it. Till I get 10.5

Fast indeed

Wonder what version of WebKit it uses, and how developers should approach testing in Safari 2 and 3 concurrently (before, I noticed that the latest WebKit and Safari rendered even regular things like text differently).

I wish it had a button for New Window and one for New Tab. It's what keeps me going back to Firefox. But the speed is noticeable.

Does Safari v3 for Mac fix the longstanding issue of flickering DHTML menu when placed over Flash? I'm at work without access to a Mac and noticed that the Windows version does not exhibit the problem.

Try dragging a tab outside the main window, it's awesome!

I'm using it in Vista right now and it has an OS X-style skin so it sticks out like a sore thumb amongst all my other Vista windows. Any idea how to turn that off?

I fail to see how *you* claiming that Apple screwed Leopard over royally because the first public beta of an internet browser due to be released in four months' time doesn't work properly with some site makes *me* an "idiot", but that's probably just because it's damn hot here, and I'm tired.

Same issue here. It is very fast, and I'd be happy to use it if it weren't for the interface.

Anyone tried hacking the plist to get pithhelmet to work with 3.0? I briefly tried 3.0 but prefer 2.0 with PH rather than 3.0 without it....

I think they're doing that with Javascript. I'm on Safari 2.0.4 and I see a styled drop-down list.

I'm also very pleased with the inline searching. Firefox has had it for a while and it was a big plus for me for that browser, but Safari's implementation is even better. I must say this is the most appealing search method I've seen in a browser yet!

That is correct. But Safari 3 does support styled forms.

There still doesn't seem to be a way to get it to search for instance google.co.nz instead of google.com, but other than that it seems pretty similar and all still works .

Managed to get it to hang twice on a work machine running XP, using the bookmark pane, but that's easily avoided.

OK, for XP, there is a huge problem with my install of Safari 3.0: Settings and cookies are reset every time I relaunch the app. History is still there, but everything else goes back to its original install settings. Is anyone else having this problem?
