"people that are into this kind of stuff are going to be floored...

Without question, one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. I can't imagine how much work went into this or how you'd even know where to start.
I had to watch this 7 min video a few times because I couldn't believe what I was seeing/hearing. The first thing that popped into my head was the part in Blade Runner where he's looking around inside photos."
I found this on another forum, so I quoted it here...
still an amazing video!

I'll be the ass who mentions that it's a re-post, but will say that DAMN, that thing is well worth re-posting every few months.
Thanks for the reminder!

Impressive. Too bad it was taken by the Empire.

Didn't Apple demo something similar using Core Video and Quartz Extreme?

Yes. The only difference here is that this one used meta data in the images to get location data to stitch them together.
I saw a similar demo years ago from SGI, only it was more seamless, but deliberately stitched together.

What he doesn't show is that for the "demo" there's a supercomputer running in the back room.

My concern is that we're going to get so obsessed with making visually appealing interfaces that we're going to end up with pretty software that doesn't do a whole lot by way of actual data organization and retrieval.
We'll see.

I know. I'm effing retarded when i'm drunk.
But yeah. Apple users do care more about the visuals than the application in some cases. I just hope that doesn't carry over too much into software that I need to use on a day-to-day basis. In that case I care far more about advanced features and increased productivity than I do about a pretty interface with neato animations.
p.s. i'm a girl and this is the most coherent i have ever been when i'm drunk.

That's not really relevant.
By 1997 standards, a thousand-dollar MacBook is more than a "supercomputer".
And the stuff we're doing today on a ****ing iPhone was barely imaginable to people using desktop workstations back in 1992.

I would call that a broad generalization.
