Does anyone else think that print centre is the most primitive aspect of OS X?
It is one of the most common things we do on our computers ,,, printing a document. I don't know how many times I have gone through print centre trying to figure out the nutty "Stop and Start Jobs" scenario.
What happens if I want to kill a print job. I know, I know, keyboard commands or go to print centre, but come on, shouldn't a dialog box come up with all the info about printing appear as soon as I hit "Print".

I have had to delete and add printers back, delete print jobs to get the printer to work etc.

Anyway, enough ranting , am I going to get any relief in Panther was what I was wondering.

Panther does have a revamped Print Center, but I'm not sure it addresses all the issues you have with it. Now, when you print, an icon appears in your Dock corresponding to the printer you're printing to. Click it, and you get the window with the jobs currently printing, so stopping a print job is a maximum of two clicks (Dock icon, Stop toolbar button) away. How's that?

Actually, this would be very annoying. 99% of the time when you hit print, you mean it. And you don't want a box coming up and getting in your way while you could and should be doing something else. That 1% of the time you screw up, the fix is just a couple of clicks away. This is how it should be. No offense, but if you cancel a lot of print jobs you should look into your computing habits/procedures. It really shouldn't be necessary. On the rare occasion I cancel a job, it's usually because the printer or print server got borked and I'm just trying to clean out the queue and reset things.

It would be nice to have desktop printers and better drag and drop printing. Yes I know there are hacks to do this over at OSX Hints. But having it more smoothly integrated into OSX by Apple would be a good idea.

A little birdy told me that you can have desktop printers on Panther. As to drag and drop printing, it was never all that impressive on Mac OS 9, so I wouldn't know if it's any better on OS X.

That's an understatement. It wouldn't work with Fierys, among others. Most places I worked had it disabled because it caused too many problems.

Printing in Panther is way more responsive than with Jag.

Adding a printer seems pretty easy too.

You can use the right button in Safari at least to print a page.

You can keep the icons in the dock to use as a desktop printer.

Pretty cool over all - the main thing I like about printing in OS X is the easy in which you can switch printers without having to go to the dumb chooser.

Now everything about printing is faster and easier.

What's your point? OS X is the same way. Even Classic was the same way in most cases.

He replies, with a mouth full of bait.

Anyway, I think he meant 'mature' in the sense that it is old and slow.
