Hello,

My wife and I are looking into purchasing an iMac for our daughter. We came across this and it seems like a good deal. Our daughter prefers the matte screen and the price works for us. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks

Why not get a first-gen Intel iMac? Remember that eventually the PowerPC architecture is not going to be supported.

Also, thinks of all the benefits of having an Intel Mac. You can run Windows if you need to and its faster than the G5.

Just my two cents,

Yeah, go with an Intel Core 2 Duo machine. The 1.83 GHz will be fine, and a lot faster than the G5, for not much more. Check eBay. I've had great success there.

I wouldn't get a g5 now.

Much slower, older graphics card, and not very future proof.

I'd never buy a computer off eBay. Too risky.

I recommend getting a refurbished iMac from Apple. A little bit more expensive, but comes with one year warranty. That piece of mind and reliability is worth it.

Just don't buy the overpriced Apple RAM. Get crucial RAM (sometimes the refurbished computers have much more RAM in them anyway, so you might not need to buy additional ram).
