Is there any way to create a filevaulted user home directory on an external hd? I know you can use the typical sparse image route, but what I really want to do is create a secure removable home folder that I log into from my main computer. I also know how to move a user's home folder to an external hd, but I can't seem to enable filevault for it. Any ideas?

Why not create a encrypted disk image that you can store on the external drive.
Personally FV presents too many risks and consequences that over rule any potential benefit, but that's just my $.02. I use an encrypted disk image for all of my personal stuff.

so does that mean I can place an entire user home folder into the disk image. The key here is that I want to be logged into this home folder when I am using it. The main point is to keep everything (preferences, settings, desktop, etc) all inside of the encrypted file.

No, but then if you're worried about snooping eyes on the computer when you're not around. Just password project your ID and don't give out the password. Nobody will see your porn that way

Put really sensitive files on their own encrypted disk image; don't store the password to it in your keychain.
