Hey, I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this problem with iPhoto I'm having. Photos show up fine until I start to zoom into them, or edit them, and I get some pretty nasty visual artefacts ranging from incorrect colour to completely obliterated visuals.
See these screen grabs:
I am using a Macbook Pro CD 2.0GHz with Radeon x1600, OS X 10.6.3 and iPhoto 8.1.2.

Does this only happen in iPhoto? Can you try playing a game to see what happens?

Yes, it seems to be specific to iPhoto – I've been playing Second Life and Portal recently and they are fine.

What does external video set to mirror show? Same issues?

Same issues on an external monitor set to mirror.
Is this looking more like a software problem than a hardware one?

I'm thinking your Radeon x1600 is going bad.
I'm trying to think of a test that will be definitive...
In the meantime, why not go ahead and apply the 10.6.4 combo update and see if that fixes anything.

Can you check the temperatures of that graphics card?

The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

There are a number of third-party apps for that. Here is one I like.

I've seen this in other C2D MBPs. My theory is a bad card. If it is the same as what I have seen, the problem will not manifest on an external display. It's quite bizarre.
