I've currently set my default player to vlc but now as ive discovered mplayer and find it to be more useful than vlc, how do i change it to become the default program to run .*avi files? I've tried going to the *.avi file and command + i and tried changing it to mplayer, but mplayer doesnt seem to like being default and it always hops back to vlc. Appreciated if anybody can help me solve this. Many thanks before hand....

Well downloaded some scrubs via kazaa (pc) and bit Torrent and vlc played them with video only and no sound. When I tried it on mplayer, it worked fine and the sound issues were solved.
thanks e-cyras for the link, ill download it now.

VLC does play most stuff that mplayer does, but there's a big reason why I use mplayer instead: hardware acceleration. I have a 400 MHz G4 with a Radeon 8500.. playing big movies on the CPU is stuttery, but using the graphics card it's nice and smooth.
