Hey everyone -

I'm having a rather bizarre issue with my CoreDuo Blackbook (2GHz, 2GB RAM). I've had it for several months now and it's always been relatively hot, but not this hot. Also, for the last five days my fan has been running full-speed full-time. Obviously, if it's doing it's job I'm fine with it, but I'm worried because it just started over the last few days and I haven't made any changes to the system, hardware, software, updates, anything that I know of. Here are my iStat Pro readouts:

CPU is running at 72 degrees Celsius and the fan is running at 6200RPM.

I may be getting worried about nothing but the timing is rather curious.

Anyone have advice? Thoughts on what may have caused this?

Open /Applications/Utilities/ActivityMonitor and sort by CPU load. Is there something using up a lot of CPU? Select the CPU tab at the bottom of the window. How many idle % does your CPU show?

The only times I've had this happen is when I'm running an intensive PowePC application... if I play Europa Universalis 2 for instance, the fan runs constantly.

I'm showing an idle % of 45-50% consistently. Thoughts?

Weird, I just restarted for the first time in a few weeks and all seems normal again. 85-90% idle with most of my apps I need launched. Some process must have gotten hung and couldn't kill itself =\

Thanks, though!

You can also use a app called smc fan control to adjust your fan speeds

That happens. Whenever it does ActivityMonitor will let you find and force quit it.
