In the wake of Apple's recent court victory and truce with Google's Motorola division, Apple and Samsung have entered into a new round of lawsuit settlement talks, according to sources for the Korea Times. The two companies are said to be in "working-level discussions," where the goal is "how to dismiss all lawsuits." The primary impetus is said to have been the recent US trial; while Apple did win, it was also found to have infringed some Samsung patents.

Apple may no longer feel it's worth pursuing actions against Samsung, particularly since the trial netted the company less than $120 million in damages, a far cry from the billions it was originally demanding. Samsung was awarded $158,400.

One of the Times' sources says it's likely that an Apple/Samsung settlement will involve royalty agreements for patents owned by each side. The person adds that as a result, it will probably take some time for a deal to be concluded.

If the parties do come to an agreement, it will effectively end Apple's major legal battles. Those began when Apple co-founder Steve Jobs called Google's Android platform "stolen," and promised he was ready to go to "thermonuclear war" over the matter. Samsung's Android-based phones and tablets have been Apple's main target, but it has also chased after the likes of HTC and Motorola, both of whom are now out of the picture. Jobs' successor, Tim Cook, is believed to be less interested in legal campaigns.
