Just wanting to know how mine compare to others. I just installed and my boot times are stil the same.
1:20 from the press of the button to the desktop.

1:25, just checked. My PM 867 seems faster, though when I switch it off is faster than PM that takes ages. Don�t no why.

Please tell us what type of HD you are using. It would be interesting to see if the 5400rpm drive gives faster boot times...

I'm using a stock Toshiba 60 gig 4200 RPM. I still have a 7K60 in a FW enclosure, if I get a chance I'll swap them and let you know what, if any difference there is.

Panther is much faster booting up than Jaguar was... probably twice as fast.

PB15" 1.25 stock (i.e. drive and memory), power plugged in (if it makes any difference), Panther, AE disabled:

From press to grey apple logo: 26 secs
From press to desktop: 57 secs

Hmm, well how come my times with panther are about the same? That isn't right.

*edit* Tried again and got right at a minute.
Still not as good as I think it should be considering the extra umph from the .33 ghz addition. Any other Rev B. PB's?

Some people may be getting faster boot times becasue they have disabled some features in the OS (ie. disabling personal web sharing means that Apache does not have to start-up, not being attached to a network makes the computer wait for a network response when there will be none... etc.). This leads me to beleive that this thread is useless for any reason beyond knowing general boot times of our MacNN friends. If one were to post their boot times along with _detailed_ system information including their specific hardware and software environment then maybe, just maybe we would actually be learning something, instead of benchmark masturbating.

With 17' PB Rev B stock configuration, on batteries, under Panther, i get 58 secs from pressing button till everything is loaded (finder, dock etc...).

wow somethings gotta be wrong. My old 1.6 ghz PC started up in under a minute with lots of apps.

Stock Rev. A 12" Albook. Still on Jaguar (which i hope to change soon). Power button to desktop in 4 minutes. been like that since i got it, every time i boot. I'm hoping Panther will help alleviate that, but i rarely reboot so it isn't too much of a problem.

32 seconds with airport running and nothing I can think of disabled. This is plenty fast for me. I do have the BTO 5400rpm drive which might shave a few seconds off. I keep the system optimized on a weekly basis. While this is great, I have had 4 panics on this machine in 3 weeks of use (it is new). That is more panics than I had in 3 years on my TiBook. So, something is wrong but I don't know what it might be. I have also had one occassion to the black scree of death after trying to wake from sleep on a fully charged battery......

12" Rev. B with 768MB RAM. 55 seconds from power button to Dock & Finder. However, the HD is still loading stuff afterwards.

BTW, Podolsky, what do you do to "keep the system optimized on a weekly basis?"

I'm not sure but he may be talking about the apple maintenance cronjobs. There is a Daily script, a weekly script, and a monthly script... trouble is that apple sets them up by default to run somewhere between 3 and 4 am, which is no good for us PB owners, as most of us probably have our PBs asleep at that time.

This was one of the 1st things I did was change those scripts to run at a time when I know my PB is likely to be awake... Keeps the system sharp.
