I don't drink a lot of beer, but when I do, I'd like to enjoy the experience. The closest place to buy beer from where I live is about 50 miles, so it's not that easy to test from the multitude of brands out there.
Of the beers I've tried, I realy like Beck's, Asahi and Corona, but there are so many I've never tried.
Anybody got favorites, strong opinions or "avoid for God's sake"?

It would be easier to narrow it down to breweries. Which state are you? Can use that to check the distributor list of certain breweries to help find something worthwhile for you.

Kentucky. I know there are a few micro brews in the state, but I've not tried any.

Labatt Blue is really good. So is Michelob and Heineken. That really sucks that you can't buy beer close to home. Beer is one of the things that really just makes me smile consistently every time I have one.
I'll be traveling through western Europe in a couple of months and I've got to say I'm really looking forward to sampling the different beers. I'll be flying into Paris and traveling around France, Spain and Germany. Anybody from those countries recommend a certain place or beer?

Everyone has their preferences.
Labatt gives me the runs. Michelob is not better than Bud or Miller. Heineken is semi-decent, but the only reason it's popular is due to a very large advertising camplaign.

Basically, I avoid all the mainstream Us brews (Bud, Miller, etc.) They use a metric-buttload of rice (and sometimes corn) to augment what little barley they put in and that ish gives me nasty headaches.

Almost anything from the 100+ belgium beers served in on of the nicest pubs in the world, staminee de Garre in Brugge Belgium.
If I had to choose, Gulden Draak from tap, or Westvleteren Vader Abt in bottle, both 12% by volume.

Labatts Blue, Rickards Red, Alexander Keiths, Kokanee. I really only drink Canadian beer.
If you're really cheap, Lakeport, or Lucky lagers My body is now accustomed to them.

I'm not much of a beer drinker, maybe 12 a year. but generally I like Killian's, Becks Dark, or Mickey's (OK, Mickey's is not technically "beer" but whatever)

I've been partial to Sam Spring Ale, which is a tasty Belgian White.
I'm drinking a Labatt right now and it's meh. Heineken is pure shite, and Dos Equis is better than Corona.

If I were still drinking I'd be so jealous of you that I would be seriously pissed and be going through the mental anguish that you are rubbing it in my face.
As it stands I am only slightly less pissed than that.

I used to go to a bar in Michigan where Blue Moon was $1 a bottle. Out here it's $7.99 a six pack.
Blue Moon isn't too bad, smells like pizza.

Blue Moon is the least tasty Belgian white I've come across, it's still decent but....meh.

Guiness on tap is my staple. I try pretty much any "real ale" I can get my hands on. I avoid lagers anymore.
Back in the states, I was fairly partial to Red Hook ESB. Sierra Nevada wasn't so bad either.
I do have to say that on REALLY hot days after working outdoors there was something transcendent about an ice cold miller lite. Can't really explain it. It's probably the same personal failing that makes me sing along to mmmmmbop by hanson.
And for the record, Heineken tastes like butt.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention Beamish.
Most of the time I just drink PBR because it's the cheapest thing around (except in the few places that serve Brubaker which is not only cheap but delicious). Can't go wrong with 50¢/can.

Bud Light baby! That's my go-to beer.
If you get the chance I'd recommend 'New Glarus - Spotted Cow'. It's brewed by a local brewery, so odds are you won't find it, but it's a great beer.
I also like a little Guinness now and then, Labatt Blue, Harp, Strongbow, and Woodchuck Cider (ok, the last two aren't really beer).
