Ex has a 3GS which took a half-gainer into a puddle. She's been using her old 3G for a few months now, and it's so trashed as to be almost useless (can't mute, can't add apps, won't sync). It finally died, so with two phones in purse she was off to see an Apple Genius.

Ex: Ok, back in business... I think
Me:
Me: Which
Ex: 3G
Me:
Ex: Wuh?
Me: Wot about GS?
Ex: Not as much memory!
Me: ???
Ex: The 3G has more memory!
Me: No it doesn't.
Ex: I wanted to get the one w/ the most memory fixed.
Me: How much does each have?
Ex: 30 vs 16
Me: Start this story over again... Do you have a new phone?
Ex: Yup
Me: REALLY important detail.
Ex: I'm sleepy!!
Me: Didn't your old 3 have only 16?
Ex: Meany
Me: Yes
Me: Is it running iOS 4? Can u double tap the home key and get fast app switching?
Ex: Yes
Ex: It's so snappy!!!!
Me: Even tho it's not a GS?
Ex: No this is the GS!!!

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU...

Me: Say goodnight, Gracie
Ex: Nooooo! I can't stop watching crappy tv!!!!!!

It sounds like every conversation I've ever had while trying to help a family member or friend with a computer question. They never seem capable of describing their problem and instead keep repeating themselves in a nonsensical fashion.

But yea, who care how much memory the phone has, the 3GS is considerably more capable than the 3G.

This. She's had me as her IT department, so there's never been a reason for her to try and figure out technology beyond the minimum requirement of having it do stuff.

This is what surprised me. Tech-savvy or not, you don't remember the difference between the phone which used to be awesome before it got soaked, and the one you've been complaining about being dog slow for the last three months?

The other thing is, I've been your IT guy for eight years, I get made fun of for randomly spouting off on the minutiae of Apple history, and I frigging bought the phones... maybe, just maybe, I know what I'm talking about.
