I'll start off by saying that I recognize that Safari does not exactly enjoy the position of "snappiest browser on the internet." Lately, though, it's really laggy when loading pictures or slow web pages. It becomes completely unusable for 2-10 seconds, until the desired picture/website is fully loaded, even if it loaded in another tab. I can't recall Safari being this way before. I'm on a dual 1.42ghz G4 tower with 2gb of memory, and as I said it didn't used to be this bad.

I'm trying to figure out if Pithhelmet or Saft are causing this behavior. Is anybody else experiencing this lag when loading tabs?

Absolutely - it's terrible at loading background tabs.

I'm experiencing the same. But, then I'm using the beta, so I'm guessing it's that.

Are you using the beta?

Nah, I'm using tried and true 2.0.4.

2gb RAM, but this stuff happens after a fresh restart (little memory or VM used) so I'm thinking it's Safari or an add on. Does this seem like typical Safari behavior on your computer?

Yes, if you have add-ons, then that might have an effect. Try running without those for some time and see whether that makes a difference.

Some people forget about old add-ons and think they are running none when in fact they do, so have a look into (~)/Library/InputManagers and see what's there.

Empty you cache? Is your RSS turned on and have a high number of subscriptions? What about Autofill forms? Cleared those out?

Wow...I guess if you count over 1600 queued articles as a high number

Seems that when I reinstalled OSX a month ago and put the old .plist file back, somehow Safari still managed to re-enable RSS and so those things were just building up, out of sight and out of mind. Thanks for the tip, that was exactly the kind of thing I wouldn't even have looked for! Everything is running smoothly again.
