I hope I can finnaly use my Earthlink DSl on it!

I presume you've already read the multitude of posts regarding the (assumed) lack of DVD functionality in OSX. Therefore, I won't pursue the topic. On your second point, that of using Earthlink DSL, from what I've experienced, it should not be a problem. I am currently using Build 4K60, and am immensely pleased to note that my Earthlink (Mindspring) DSL connection works flawlessly. SJ had promised in MWNY that PPP would be totally implemented on release of OSX1.0 and I believe it will be. Fear not.

Ok.
Hey guys, I think you'll all be happy to hear this (!); I've pinpointed the problem with all this negtive talk: I think everyone is confusing OS X with OS X final.
There is no such thing as OS X FINAL, so don't worry about late features.
don't worry about DVD. It'll be missing for a few months, no biggie.

But I do acknowledge your question. My answer is that, after using the Beta, aside from issues such as missing apps to run on the OS, the OS itself is great. Flawless? of course not. It's a 1.0 release, and an evolutionary process. It looks near-perfect to me, but I'm sure flaws are in there somewhere, waiting to be fixed.
I really like it. It doesn't crash on me, and I can do everything I, as a student, need to do.
The futures so bright, I gotta wear shades...

My guess on OS X is as follows:
Apple needs to "GM" OS X within this upcoming week to be able to make enoguh CD to ship world wide and be available on March 24. This gives a few weeks that Apple programers can still be hard at work. Apple can release "Preview Releases" or even final versions of applications like iTunes, and iMovie (even DVD support) on March 24 that can be available on the web.
Just becasue Apple won't release the Applications on CD, doesn't mean that they won't be available on the Web.

DVD may well be there.
Think about it - its only a little issue, right?
BUT - there sure has been a big fuss made over it, hasn't there?
Its an easy thing to fix.
Now, what if GM ships with DVD?
There will be all this raving about "IT HAS DVD! IT HAS DVD!".
Apple is going to use surprise to hits advantage, in order to overshadow and hide some of the concerns - it wants good things on forum pages like this as well as complaints.
Its the way they'll do it, you watch.
You get what I mean right?

You shouldn't have any trouble with your DSL. It should be easier than in Mac OS 9, in fact; OS X has PPPoE built right in.
As for other negatives, well, OS X doesn't support some 3rd party hardware, and some apps might not run so well in the OS 9 compatibility environment. And of course it has rather high system requirements, but if your iBook has 128 MB of RAM, you'll be fine.
I'd say give it a shot. I'll probably install it as soon as I get my hands on it and never look back, but then I've been using the public beta as my primary OS for the last few months; I do web development work and being able to run Photoshop in the same environment as Apache and Perl is great.

I think this would be very foolish of Apple. It's a mistake to condition your customers into never believing you when you announce disappointing news. If they did this, no one would ever believe any bad news from Apple and people in these and other fora would be constantly blaming Apple for their own disappointment. As it is, when 1.0 ships without DVD playback (as I am convinced it will), you can bet there'll be at least one outraged post here from some poor disheartened Mac user who doesn't realize he has only himself to blame.
Sure, Jobs is wily, and maybe he would pull a stunt like you describe, despite it being a very bad idea. But I wouldn't go staking my hopes on it.

Remember, though, Nonsuch, that Apple never said OSX would ship without DVD playback. The only places we've heard that from are unreliable or obviously biased sources (like C|Net and MSNBC, whose blatant anti-Mac slant shows up exceedingly well in the article they wrote on the subject).

Wrong. Ken Bereskin, product manager for OS X, has stated that some features, including DVD playback will be missing.

You should also be Careful Milio,
There is *nothing* regarding this info on Apple's Site. I'm awaiting official information from Apple, and while it's a more solid stance than "Our sources", just because we have a name doesn't make it official, or truthful.

Oh, I'm being very careful. Not breaking NDA means pointing to already published info.

Thank's for the feedback guy's Im new to the Mac world so I cant really say anything bad about Macintosh, actually I only have good things to say, but to me it seems rather foolish to ship OS X without DVD playback when you know you have been putting DVD drives into all your new system's but anyway I wont continue to speak about the DVD problem because it's getting rather borrin. To tell you the truth I would be surpirsed if they didnt come up with a fix for it almost imediatly. By the wasy guys Ive benn hearing about MWNY, but I have no clue as to where it's celebrated in New York and when it is, also what's the entrance fee to this Expo? I would really apreciate any information on this subject! Thank's
