since Gerrit's awesome icons and screenshot here, and number_six's sweet first attempt here, plus some of the various elegant windows minimal themes i've seen lately, (most recently this one and this one and this one), not to mention some links to sweet minimal styles in this post i just can't help putting in a request to see if any of the talented mac themers are up for the minimalist thing.

may I recommend Gerrit's update of Underling.

Click his signature link to get to the GUI Goodies. It is not gray and white, has more color than that. His update from the original Jag theme is true to the original with a very complete set of widgets, navigation and menus updated for Panther.

one of the bestest - IMHO

there is the ever present issue of the key to the minimal theme is the minimal font and so far - although Silk does a bangup job of altering nearly everything - we are always stuck with Lucinda Grande in the end... bummerer

I recently recieved a request via email to port this http://www.deviantart.com/view/10331722/ to OS X . The style is absolutely beautiful and I'd really like to fulfil the request but we'll see what happens

I have a soft spot for this theme : http://www.deviantart.com/view/7252981/ it's called Drift. I used it for quite awhile whilst on Windows.

I don't know if it's minimalistic - I believe it is.

I'm all for doing it, I'd love to use it myself. Is there anybody with a copy of windows so I can get the resources extracted?

As for up my house, I'm all for that too. We'll work out something later

Personally I'd take a "minimalistic" mac theme down towards the likes of grayhouse's 8270 and heylove's Infinite Simplicity.
Shaded, Plaster and Underling are definitely beautiful and stylish, but not truly minimalistic IMHO. Let's push the limits

i remember seeing Shaded a while ago. nice looking theme...

hey mac15 i might have to come down as well and mow your lawns and do your gardens.

i don't have a PC here, but i don't know how to extract the elements or anything like that but i'd give it a go if no one else wants to...?

can't wait to see that theme on OS X...

SONE doens't look bad either... kind of reminds me of some linux visual style. might work on OS X....

It is Solaris9 for x86 and SPARC stations
I think that's more Retro than minimal, but pretty cool anyway
EDIT: I've tried and tried but it's just too darn hard to make a decent minimalistic theme without having it looking too square or too Aqua-ish. Sure, you could just port over one of the windows themes, but it would be a lot cooler if the mac community started doing these kinds of themes also

Quick mockup of what could grow further down from my favorite Plaster > PlasterAGV mod to a minimalistic theme. Feedback is highly appreciated. TIA

any Solaris or older OS look-alike will just probably look dated, not minimal.

it's a tricky thing to make a good minimal theme... it's got to be simple, but that doesn't mean it has to be just balck and white. getting the good mix of colors is essential. Shaded looks reall nice, because it's not just whites and grey's.

Gerrit - that looks nice... but just a bit too white for me. i think if i had my whole screen filled with white like that i'd go blind.

i agree. it's a lovely mockup, but the white is blinding, especially in a non-fluorescent environment. i use my mac at home, under soft / low-light conditions, and such a white theme would not only be uncomfortable to work with for long stretches, imo, but perhaps even eye-damaging. now i'm thinking about traditional ceramics from korea and japan in terms of color and simplicity.

I would love to see Nano (by 4imp) ported over to mac, since it was my primary theme on windows. It minamalistic yet has attention to detail that makes it appealing, so I emplore someone to port it, the 4impressions team has always been good about giving permissions and such.

As for the De Stijl concept by Gerrit, I think it's very promising, would love to see and entire guikit for that. Piet Mondrain has always been one of my favorite artits.

Yes.

I like simplicity, but I can't find a single theme for ShapeShifter that appeals to me. Not even "Good Grey" which is the nicest I've seen so far. But I can't get into it.

I like Drift though. At least what I've seen of it.
