I'm using a G4, 20" snowball iMac with OS X 10.4.4 and iPhoto 6. My entire library shows all the thumbnails, but when I click on a photo, then edit, I get a blank screen, or a dashed lined square around a question mark.
This only starting happening after I installed iLife '06. Is there a setting I'm missing. Thanks.

have you found how to get out of that??
I have the same problem, and I search in the console.log, and I find this:
Code:
2006-02-02 11:05:46.640 iPhoto[368] *** +[CIPlugIn _addPlugIn:allowNonExecutable:]: selector not recognized

Is your Mac CoreImage capable?
To find out click the Apple-menu->About this Mac->More Info button then select Graphics/Displays and what does it say about "CoreImage"?

No it's not supported. But I see iPhoto 6 running on Ti 800, I have a powerbook 12" 867.

Sounds like it can find the thumbnail, but not the "original". If you can find it the old fashiond way you could re-add it.
Unless iPhoto6 uses a binary db file in lieu of actual pictures.

I solve the problem, here my solution, I search the web for the console error, and I figured out that many users have the same problem.
The solutions is to replace the AppleAppSupport.framework 1.4 with the older version, 1.2.
To do it I use my Tiger install DVD and with Terminal I type this:
Code:
sudo mv /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/AppleAppSupport.framework /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/AppleAppSupport.framework.old
sudo cp -pr /Volumes/Mac\ OS\ X\ Install\ DVD/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/AppleAppSupport.framework /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks
My iPhoto6 now edit, perfectly. If it doesn't work, try also this:
Setting Permissions for iPhoto Library Folder
1 - Select the iPhoto Library folder and type Command-I.
2 - When the Info window comes up go to the Ownership and Permissions section and make sure You have Read & Write permission and that the Owner and Group have Read & Write also. Others - Read Only.
3 - Then click on the "Apply to enclosed items..." button.
Hope it helps
