I was curious, which would you recommend, TextMate or TextWrangler? They both look very similar except one is free.
Thanks,
Mason

I've given it some more thought and I'm gonna stick with TextWrangler just because it's free and it has an easy user interface.

You haven't provided us with enough information for us to give you worthy recommendations anyway.

I'll assume you are looking for a code/html editor:
TextMate has almost no surface appeal…
The you see the Tab Triggers and bundles and playing field really becomes clear.
TextMate was almost specifically design so you never need to reach for the mouse… it is the Launchbar or Quicksilver of texteditors.
Check out the HTML screen casts at TextMate — The Missing Editor for Mac OS X to see what I mean.
It really is something of a Think Different™ app

TextMate is vastly better, in nearly every way, in my opinion. However, TextWrangler is faster for find/replace on large files. I also like how you can drag a folder into TextWrangler and it will write down a recursive list of the folder contents.

Did you know that TextWrangler can also act as an image viewer for the more common image types? I found out when I was looking at the Open with... info for image files.

TextMate is an entirely different beast. Take a look at the video casts, otherwise you don't understand how it works.

I much prefer TextWrangler. Clean, simple, and powerful at an unbelievable price.
If were to make a living using such an app, I might look into using something more featuristic. But as it is all I really need is something that I can create and edit text files with.

Textmate rocks, I have not used textwrangler.
I use Textmate just for blogging and with the blogmatte plugin its really really great.
I completely agree with :dragonflypro:, the shortcuts are the key to Textmate
Try both for 30 days and see.
Hope that helps

With some loud music + a friend to chat nearby you can get alot done. - but jezz, I'd avoid it if I had the choice---- If only real people came with Alpha Channels.......:)
