I'm having trouble (I can't ) connect an Imac 800 with airport card to my wireless router.

I have a mbp sitting right next to the imac and it is connected.
I have a Dlink Dir-655 router with WEP enabled. The imac sees the network along but will not accept the password. I have logged out with the mbp and retype to check and that is it. I then took the security off the router and still cannot connect.

Are there limitations with the early airport cards? I know its not going to be n or even g but could I be out of luck making this imac wireless anymore?

Imac: power pc G4-800mhz 512 ram- airport card firmwre # 9.52
DLink dir 655 with and without WEP enabled.
mbp - intl C2Duo 2.2/2 ram - airport extreme firmware #1.3.4

Thanks for any and all help even understanding how I can use this router more efficiently with my mbp....
Thanks
m

be sure that the wireless setting on the router is set to allow b connections. it may be setup to only allow n wireless connections. it needs to be in "compatibility mode" or whatever d-link calls it for the older airport card to connect.

Dump WEP and go WPA or WPA2. See if that helps.

I tried both now and same thing. The dir-655 is set for n, g, and b, and I tried wpa and also no security again. When I switch it over to WPA it recognizes this when it asks for a password it just doesn't accept the password. Tonight I will make sure hard wiring the network works then try again. I need to borrow a 50 ft patch cable today. We'll see after that. I also emailed D-Link but I figure I'll get better results from trying the solutions I get here.

Thanks again.
