Truthfully, I don't know why anyone would want one. The damn thing crashes on you left and right.

Seriously, I was at a Best Buy, everybody was around this thing playing with it. Then it locked up right in front of everybody.

You should've seen the seven-year old that was playing it at the time. He was so mad. I never saw a child get that angry.

Something isn't right with that thing. Whether the problem is hardware or software a game console should never ever, ever lock up on you for any reason. At the very least wait for a revision.

My Xbox has never locked up. The problem with these display consoles is that they are locked up in a closed case with no airflow.
My Xbox has barely even gotten warm after several hours of playing Halo.

The games right now are only So-So when compared with the PS2, but the selection is increasing weekly. It just needs a little time for the developers to take full advantage of the system, just like with any new game console.

They do lose money on each system they sell, so if its worth spending $300 of your money to make Microsoft lose $75, then by all means, go ahead and do it, supergenius.

I would actually like a game console.

I'm going to wait for the shake out between XB, GameCube and the PS2 to find out who the eventual platform of choice turns out to be.

(By that time my kids will be a little older anyway.)
- MacBook Air M2 16GB / 512GB
- MacBook Pro 16" i9 2.4Ghz 32GB / 1TB
- MacBook Pro 15" i7 2.9Ghz 16GB / 512GB
- iMac i5 3.2Ghz 1TB
- G4 Cube 500Mhz / Shelf display unit / Museum display

"Loose money on the razors, make money on the blades"

Game companies have been selling hardware at a loss for years now, because they get a piece of every game sold. Just simple economics.

I think it's like when you are running, and the change in your pocket is jingling around. That's Loose Money!

Microsoft likes loose money, but not to lose money!

This is normal, Sony loses money on PS2s also. They make A LOT more money on peripherals (controllers, multitaps, mem cards) which are all overpriced, and of course license fees/royalties on all the games sold.

That was true until a few months ago. Not anymore. Sony currently breaks even or makes a small profit on PS2 sales. This should continue until they drop the price. Of course they make big money on everything else related to the PS2.

Nintendo is also breaking even on GAMECUBE sales. Something about using reasonably priced components and no DVD Forum fees.

Isn't 2012 when the Mayans claimed the world would come to an end?

Well they are going to lose money if some of these units are scratching discs like they are reporting.

The exact date is Sunday December 23, 2012.
They claimed "the current train of civilization will come to an end"
It could mean a number of things.
Nuclear war
Massive plague
First Contact
Asteroid

Who knows.

"train"? did Mayan's have trains? I think what is being referred to is merely that they had only worked out their complicated calendar to that point and got tired of figuring things out, sat down with a gourd of fermented spit and got riproarin plastered realizing they'd never see that date in their lifetimes anyways.

of course, that's just speculation on my part.
