I am using Mail.app for reading my mail but have never been successful in sending mail. When I try to send mail I get the following dialog box.

- - - - -
Enter password for account
"someserver.com"

Please enter the password for the user "username" on SMTP server "someserver.com"
- - - - -

When I type in my password it comes back with the following.

- - - - -
Enter password for account
"someserver.com"

The SMTP server "someserver.com" rejected the password for user "username"

Please re-enter your password, or cancel.

I am at a loss. I use the same password to check my mail as I do to send it. I am accessing a mail server running WebStar v4.5 running on Mac OS 9.2.2. I have never setup anything tricky on the server. I just added the mail users and that was it. Everything else should be in their default state. I have always been able to use the account with programs like Netscape 4.x and Eudora with no problems but cannot make Mail.app work with it. If anyone has a suggestion I would greatly appreciate it. -BTW, this is my first post so go easy on me. Thanks.

Try turning off SMTP authentication - I find that when I am on certain networks, Mail.app will only send without authentication (which is very annoying)

Yes, by turning that off, it should work. For some odd reason, some networks will only work when that option is turned off. I never needed either to sent any mail.
