I have a emac with 256 megs of pc 133 ram. I want to get 1 gig but it will cost me 100 bucks. Can I get pc2700 ram and just have it run at 133? its about 40 bucks for 1 gig there.

No, PC2700 (DDR SDRAM) is not backward compatible with PC133 (SDRAM). I can't think of anything that is backward compatible with PC133 that would be cheaper.
