If so, Alex dropped a huge announcement today. Not a good one, I’m afraid.

I'm very sad. His attitude in the video is encouraging - about his determination - but it's a very steep uphill fight.

Very uphill. Doesn’t stage-4 pancreatic have something like a 3% five-year survival rate?

Pretty much, though some sources cite 1% 5 year rates. But, like hepatic (liver) cancer, pancreatic cancer is bad, but sometimes it fools you. Sometimes someone without symptoms is diagnosed with an advanced stage after something completely unrelated happens. And sometimes an early stage diagnosis turns out to be wrong because they just didn't see the other tumors.

I $&#*ing HATE cancer. But I hate these two kinds more than most because of how sneaky and cryptic they are.

Not to be ghoulish, but I suppose this means the hunt for the next Jeopardy host has suddenly gone into turbo mode.

Definitely bad news. I really hate all of the research being done for a lot of stupid things. Cancer research should be number one priority for medical research. Put AI into good use for it.

On a side note, I was shocked at how although the questions were not given to the contestants beforehand, the general topics are given beforehand. All you had to do is read the material beforehand and have a good memory. Of course, personal knowledge is useful also.

If you're referring to how the Final Jeopardy round was handled during the recent million-dollar teams-of-champions tournament, that was done in order to help the team captains optimize their strategy as to who they were going to put in Final Jeopardy. I don't believe it's done for the regular games.

I hope they realize they need to go in a different direction rather than attempt to fill his shoes.

Though I haven’t listened much, A Prairie Home Companion seems to have had the right idea how to play that.
