Hello,

I have a 12" 1.5ghz, 1.25 of ram hooked up to a 23" cinema. The fan goes strong when hooked up to the display, but not when I take it off. Is there any adjustments to the PB that will keep the fan from going crazy, or is the monitor just to big, and would downgrade to a 20" help this?

Thanks!

It's not the monitor that causes the fan to go strong. It's what you are doing, like if you have multiple large windows and files open at the same time. Do that with the lid shut and all notebooks will get hot.

Well, the graphics card has to power the ACD with a 1900x1200 resolution as opposed to the internal 1024x768. That definitely contributes to increased heat and resulting fan activity.

No, I suspect it's not just the resolution, but the things you do when you have the second display connected. So even if you change displays (something you really shouldn't do in your situation ), it probably won't improve the noise levels.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

About the only thing that might make the fan noise more bearable would be to elevate the rear end of the 12" (with art erasers or something) and then get a small, quiet deskfan. You can set the deskfan to blow both onto the 12" and yourself, if needs be.

Believe me, a quiet deskfan is quieter than the 12" hairdryer-speed fan.
