Greetings from sunny Copenhagen

On a G4 Macrunning OS 9.2.2 I have installed Restrospect Express (it came with a 250 GB external Maxtor FireWire disk).

While I was on holiday a co-worker wanted to make a back-up using Retrospect. The idea was to backup an external 40 GB FireWire disk (let us call it A) to the new big Maxtor disk (we can call that B).

But the result is bizarre.

The process went very fast. In a matter of a few minutes the source disk (A) har it's name changed to the name og the back-up-set (1_back-up_data) and the contents of the disc is now 40-something retrospect files called Retrospect_data_01 and 02 and 02 and 04 etc.

Each file is 1.99 GB except the last one which is only 360 MB.

The dissc is full. All data are gone, I just have all those retrospect files. And there is nothing on the target rive (B).

This is very critical because I need my data.

I wonder what went wrong ... and i want to know how this can be reversed.

Any hints?

Thank you in advance.

Peter

Can't really help you with your specific problem, but I also recently bought the 250G Maxtor and love the drive. I used it to back up all my PC files when I recently made the switch to Mac, and have since imported most of them to the new Powerbook (Mac recognized and read the Windows formatted drive no problem).

Tonight I finished this process and reformatted the drive for Mac OS - then I installed the Retrospect Software, and found it to be very badly organized and fairly complicated, plus my 'one touch' button didnt seem to do anything at all, so I went ahead and just dragged files over to the Maxtor which seemed so much easier.

I think it is the most pointless application I have seen in a while, but that's just me.......

Good luck with your problem
