I'm glad a big online media entertainmentvendor has finally begun selling TV shows (not many, but I'm assuming more will follow). Does anyone know the resolution of these videos? I doubt they could offer the bandwidth for anything considered HD, but I'm hoping that although this is just a ploy to sell more iPods (I remember reading they don't make much from iTunes), the resolution is good enough for video quality that isn't going to be crappy (like SVCD and below).

Yup, I too would like to know, if anyone's purchased any videos, what the quality's like. Screencaps are welcome.

My cable's out and I was considering buying tonight's episode of Lost, but I'd like it to at least be enjoyable. If the quality sucks, I'd rather have a friend TiVo it and burn it to a DVD.

I'd guess at 320 x 240 h264 as that's the res on the new pods.

I remember reading 320x240 h.264, but I have no idea what bitrate is used.

QVGA, 320*240, the bitrate was ~600kb/sec
I free'd my mind... now it won't come back.

So another question - can I create an mp4 video with those specs and play it on the ipod? Or does it have to be siomething purchased through iTunes?

Nevermind. from xlr8yourmac

" What's new in QuickTime 7.0.3
QuickTime 7.0.3 delivers several important bug fixes, primarily in the areas of streaming and H.264 video. QuickTime 7 Pro users also gain the ability to create video and audio files that can be played back on compatible iPods. This update is highly recommended for all QuickTime 7 users. "

Urgh, sounds like as I thought... Just a "gimmick" (a good one though) to sell iPods. I'd like to see a quality online TV program download service that has decent video (decent, not i1080) on a decent display, and maybe portability. I guess I'll have to wait to see how it is myself.
