On linux you have the ability to store you public/private keys on visa-like card. To crypt/decrypt, sign verify a mail you just plug you card into a reader.

I'm looking for the hardware part of this on Mac OS X.

It's called a "smart card" so you need a smart card reader. Search for them and you'll find a LOT of them!

However, you can use just about any portable storage to keep your keys on-a USB "thumb" drive works fine.
