I have been trying to set up Mac mail (not .Mac) and keep getting the message SMTP server rejected the password. I thought I had set it up ok and sent a couple of emails to myself but they seemingly sent ok but cannot receive them. They are in the sent folder but nothing happens when I try to receive them. Also it seems that I now have lost my ability to receive emails in my default email client which is Thunderbird. Probably due to my efforts. Can anyone help please? Internet connection is ok.

I now have received one spam message in both Macmail and Thunderbird apps but cannot send myself a return email to either my default address or separate email addresses in either program.

Check the authentication method and port used. Follow the configuration instructions provided by your mail provider.
