I got the notice as well. Guess we were the early ones to get the 2.16. Not too bad. I ordered on 2/14 the day they announced the 2.16

When you guys get the 2.16, please run some benches. I don't care about Xbench, but it'd be nice if you could run Cinebench, and try things like video encoding, etc.

Now where is that 13-incher...

Eug...I will post my results for real world apps...Zend, Photoshop, etc. If it is anything like the new iMac then it should be MUCH faster then the current laptops.

Mine shipped yesterday as well. Very strange. They left me a voicemail message yesterday claiming that they had made a mistake and that it would really be 3-4 weeks, not 1-3 days. I almost thought about cancelling it. Good thing I didn't.

Yep. They are run out of 1.83 and because of the people who pre-ordered ordered the high-end model (addicted mac users), they had to upgrade the line. So now, what's happen? They have a lot of 2.16 cos it's the more expensive one. For the 2.0, it's fine, cos they sell less iMac 20" than 17". But for the 1.83 (what I ordered), they're in a big big sh*t (they sell so many iMac 17" and the competitors want some too; the 1.67 and 1.83 are the most popular Core Duo).

Wow.

Did everyone's 2.16 have either the stock hard drive or the 100GB 7200? The reason I ask is because I ordered a 2.16 on Tuesday with the 120GB 5400 (I need space more than speed), and am wondering if I'll get lucky, too.

Ditto. I have the 2.16 with a 120gb 5400 rpm hdd.

But there is still hope. Today around 3:00est, when I go to order status and click cancel, I get a new message that my order can no longer be cancled. There is a link that gives possible explanations to this, and the one that pertains to my situation is that the product is being "prepared for shipment". I have my fingers crossed.

That's interesting. I actually can't seem to log in to edit my order because my corp. rep. said that there's no Apple ID associated with it. Otherwise I'd be interested to check if that's the case for mine too.

Here is what I mean.

1. Can't be this.. The order date shows Jan 19
2. Awesome! Maybe it's already on it's way
3. Nope, I did not cancel it.
4. Nope, there is no such thing as electronic delivery of hardware
5. Awesome.. Build away! It should ship soon then.

Either way, it looks like it should ship any time now. Hopefully this means I will have my MBP this week!

I think with the IP Direct Distribution packages can come early. They do what's most efficient. Usually FedEx doesn't deliver early though.

Alright guys, I'm taking your word on this one dispite what Apple is telling me.

I ordered a 2.0Ghz machine on February 13th and have always had an estimated ship date of March 14th. Ironically, I'm giving a speech on March 14th which is the first event I would love to have the MBP for. So my focus is getting the machine before then. The speed difference isn't too significant to me.

When I saw the info about the upgrades I thought I was all set. I figure there were exactly 0 orders for a 2.16Ghz box before February 14th, so I could upgrade and skip a lot of waiting. However, when I called Apple, they said that processor isn't shipping until mid-March and I decided to wait.

Now that I've seen you guys posting about your fast turn-arounds though, I've decided my initial guess was right and it seems the processor is clearly shipping. I do have 2Gigs of RAM and the 7200RPM drive in my order, but so did at least one poster in this thread.

I took the plunge and upgraded yesterday. Apple warned me again that there was a three to four week lead time on that processor. My ship date stretched out to March 21st.

Now it's just a waiting game to see if I made the right move and will get it in time...

I still can't believe they're charging $300 for such a small bump in processor speed.

Dell is charging $400 for the same bump (from 2.00 to 2.16 GHz) on the same processor (Core Duo).

so i just altered[i know after the 18th] my order [2.0 120] to 2.13 with 100 7200. the dates are mid march like others said they were stated; what do you think the chances of it shipping sooner?

I'm not faulting apple per se - i just can't see myself paying that much for such a minimal upgrade. makes more sense to take that cash, get the biggest HD and max out the RAM.

Oh, I totally agree. I left mine at 2.0. I should have gone for the faster HD, though.

8.3% improvement isn't that bad. If you look at price per MHz, the difference is marginal.

$300 for 320mhz extra speed is fine. It's perfect for the people who need every ounce of power. Anyone who needs it can more than afford it. If you can't afford it you dont' need it.

Besides Intel charges a huge premium for this little bit of speed bump, check out pricewatch.com. Apple is only charging you this much because it's Intel's cost.

$300 is chump change if you can spend $2800 on a new laptop, especially if it gets you it 2 weeks earlier ;-)
