iBook 700Mhz G3: Panther or stick with Jaguar ?

A friend's iBook G3 700 MHz (384 RAM) currently has Jaguar installed, it runs very well and the ibook Just Works™.
However the system feels dated, lack of some useful features but mainly limited app. support (nowadays most of them require 10.3.9).
Now, most operating systems get a lot heavier with each big release, however this was not the case with 10.0 > 10.1 > 10.2, where with each release the OS became snappier.
Anyway, the question is, how will Panther run on that iBook ? The use strictly Office+Web Browsing.

I run 10.4.7 on my 500MHz iBook. Slow, but it works.

I'd definitely upgrade to Panther at the very least. Tiger would be a bit of a dog on that system, but it might be bearable if you disabled Dashboard. But in all reality, 10.3.9 should fulfill most of your friend's needs.

I would upgrade as well... no questions asked.
It may be a tiny bit slower, but the advantages over 10.2 are too great.

I generally feel that Panther is faster than Jaguar, but it may be a problem with the 384 MB RAM. It may be that you'll be more starved for memory with Panther and the speed will drop because of that.

Panther runs just fine on my iBook 466, so there's absolutely no reason not to run it on an iceBook 700.

Panther will run FASTER than Jaguar on that iBook, e.g. using the menu bar is a lot faster on Panther.

Panther is *much* faster than Jaguar. Definitely upgrade. (Tiger is slightly faster for web browsing with Safari for example, but Tiger needs a bit more RAM).

I'm running Tiger on the same system with no complaints, but I have my ram maxed out. But to answer the question Panther is definately faster then Jaguar.
