Does the PB (17") support DDR3200?

I just put in a 512mb stick of DDR3200 Samsung in my PB. It appears Apple uses Samsung DDR2700.

I'm going to buy a stick of 512mb for my gf's 12" PB. If i buy another DDR3200 to match the other 3200 I have, will the PB notice it? Will there be any performance gains? (I know they may be negligible.)

Is it worth it? Or should I just stick with 2700 memory (which is slighly cheaper)

PC3200 memory has CL 3 while PC2700 memory has CL 2.5 so that the current powerbook performs best with PC2700 memory. As for CL smaller number is better. Although you put PC3200 memory in the current powerbook the powerbook supports only PC2700 speed with slow CL.

In my 1.5 15" I put some Corsair DDR400 PC3200 ram CL3 (1gb) and it runs fine, system profiler sees it as PC2700U-25330 the same as the original 256 stick that was in it.. you wont have any dramas.. and you will future proof yourself a bit for the next gen (whenever that is) pbook that will req DDR400 ram.. I couldnt find any DDR400 ram that wasnt CL3, and really, it doesnt make any difference if CL2,2.5 or 3 for anything but servers etc from what I have read on these boards.

Not Quite. If you have PC3200 Ram rated at CL3, chances are its not going to run at CL3 at 2700 speeds. It will probably run at 2.5. The only advantage to getting PC3200 Ram would be the its more likely to be useful in the future whether on a mac or pc laptop.

No, PC3200 memory runs at CL 3 not CL 2.5. I have tested with Hynix 1GB PC3200 memory. The system profile shows PC2700U-30330, not PC2700U-25330.

Corsair sells overclocking memories. So Corsair's PC3200 memory is not true PC3200 memory. That's why its product has CL 2.5. Samsung and Hynix make only PC3200 with CL 3.

I just put a 1GB Centon PC3200 DDR400/333/266 in my 12" Powerbook, and it cannot see the memory at all. It had a 256MB PC2700/333 in it previously. Is the RAM bad, or is this just not going to work?
