The "Free iPod/iPhone" shticks are pyramid schemes. Get in for a nominal fee, and get X number of others to do the same. Each of them has to enroll (refer, recruit, signup) still more. The first few in the door do well, the later people end up with nothing as the scheme plays out and everyone wises up.
To quote from the General Forum Rules:
Spam
We take a strict zero-tolerance stance on spam. Any commercial messages (other than product announcements from active forum participants, or with prior permission, and are prefixed with [Ann]), posts linking to free iPod/Mac/Xbox/etc sites, etc will be immediately closed, the links removed, and the poster banned with no warning.
Normally, posting spam is an instaban offense. Since you are an established member, we'll let it go with a warning the first time, and removal of the link.
