AT&T is streamlining its GoPhone prepaid brand by removing some of its data plan options from its cheapest offerings. The carrier will be limiting the number of data plans its customers can choose from on June 20th for its two lowest plans, forcing data-hungry customers to upgrade their plans to a more expensive version.

The carrier's $25 plan currently provides 250 minutes and unlimited texts each month, but according to CNET, the existing data options of paying an extra $15 for 200MB or $25 for 1GB will be removed, leaving just the $5 for 50MB option. The $50 plan, one with unlimited calls and texts, would normally have a data option available to choose, but would no longer do so. The last plan, the high-cost $65 per month option, will provide unlimited calls, texts, and 1GB of data.

"We're making some changes to our AT&T GoPhone prepaid plans to simplify our offers and better aling with what customers are choosing and telling us what they want," said the company in a statement, along with a promise of more information on "new additional plan options soon."

The changes are marginally different from those suggested two weeks ago in a rumor, which also claimed that GoPhone would offer official support for the iPhone and access to LTE and HSPA+ networks.

Check out Ting. Pay for what you use.

They have a good selection of smartphones and you can potentially bring your own. I've had Ting for 5 months now and am totally satisfied. I've gotten good coverage as Ting uses Sprint's network. 100 minutes, 100 texts, 100 megs = $15. You can move up to the next "bucket of services" as needed and only pay for what you use. Customer service has also been outstanding. My wife had Virgin Mobile at one point, also on Sprint's network. However, Ting seems to have better coverage and offers roaming. you can also combine multiple devices - aka "family plan". We also had a gophone $25/month plan. Good luck figuring out how to make it work again if you go over your 250 minutes of call time.

This link: https://zfh3ftteo1.ting.com/ will get you a $25 credit towards a phone or service. Full disclosure: I also get a $25 credit : )

Read between the lines, we are maximizing our profit streams while ignoring what our customers want.
