Is this the Official Formula 1 Thread 2006 Edition™?

This year I am expecting Ferrari to be more competitive (after last year how could they not be! ).

Three horse race - McLaren, Renault and Ferrari. In that order.

Luckily for me this year they are showing qualifying where I live. Just 50 mins to go.

From what we saw today, it seems the qualifying system will throw up a few surprises. The only thing I disagree with is the burning of fuel in the top 10 shoot out.

It just doesn't work. It is another retarded FIA idea. Welcome to the suck.

Or maybe it is typical 'Saturday fireworks" in the best ToyotaF1 style, with this silly retarded ******** qual system you know a crap… **** for brains if you ask me.

And for 'heaven'… we have now engines with barely 700HP instead of the 900 HP V10 jewels… welcome to 90's engine power numbers.

F1 fans rejoyce, Bernie & Max did it again. What a bunch of suckers.

I was thinking that it's probably a good thing that Spa is off this year - given how the weather tends to be there Kimi would probably have been struck by lightning.

"High rev V8 engines"
Of course the V10 engines weren't..

I think the qual is complicated but its actually more exciting to watch now. As for the engines yes the 10's were more horsepower but the V8's demand more strategy now thus maybe more blowups (not great for the teams but exciting for the viewers) so this challenges more engineering to make a better more advanced engine that can handle 20000 RPM. I say this will be the best season in a while.

I am expecting a collison between Masa and Schumacher at the start. Then Button will hit the front wing left by Massa´s car and will retire. Montoya will overtake Alonso and both will collide but whereas Alonso will retire Montoya will continue undamaged. Barrichello will stall and Klien will hit him from behind so both will retire. Kimi will overtake ten cars at the start which will put him in the points and McLaren-Mercedes will score a 1-2 with Sato in 3rd place. Its better to be lucky than good.

I forgot one, looking totally amazed at this scenario from the pitlane, Flavio'll be using his new deodorant compulsively.

Now which one has the most chances to happen?

After watching the qualifying just now, it was a hell of a lot better to watch than last year. There are a few little details in the rules that the teams can take advantage of, like when they are waiting for the 3rd session to start, they fill up with their race fuel level then go out on the track to use it up and get a lighter car, knowing that they will be refuelled to the stated level before the race. We are back to the days of having 20 cars on the track at the same time trying to post a time at the end of the first session, and if you spin or crash, or have a failure on the car, you are out of qualifying and start from the back. For entertainment, its 100 times better than last year's system of one car at a time for one fast lap.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

I like the new qualifying format, it's more exciting to watch.
And I'm enjoying the new engines. Despite being down on power we saw laps at Bahrain within 1 second of the track record. There's less drag from the smaller radiators and drivers said that corners where they used to lift with the V10s they can now run flat out. Cool!

I'm not going to call an ambulance this time because then you won't learn anything.

"Yeah the Ferrari V8 sounds just as good if not better than the V10"
You didn't heard the Cossie, right? Watch out for Kimi onboard today, heaven.

"Despite being down on power we saw laps at Bahrain within 1 second of the track record. There's less drag from the smaller radiators"
You have to wonder where the V10'll be lapping one year later...

"and drivers said that corners where they used to lift with the V10s they can now run flat out."
Of course with such lack of power you need to be a Valentino Rossi-esque driver to loose the rear of the car, Half Schumacher'll do fine too.

" .. was wondering about honda. i don't know if i was dreaming or something, but were they not BAR Honda on the site last year? now they are just "Honda." did something change?!"
Not dreaming but sleeping I have to say. You'll end bored of Jenson and Fry non-sense speaking this year.
And note that Aguri-San bought Honda and managed to build his own team, BTW.

"BMW better show some power this time."

A cloud has moved above Ferrari's return to form in Bahrain, with reports that F1 rivals - including Renault - are questioning the legality of the new 248 F1 rear wing.

It is suggested that the Maranello based team's wing can 'flex' at high speed, and that while it may pass the specific FIA tests, it is designed to flex only in areas that are not tested by the stewards.

FIA inspectors were spotted and photographed inside the scarlet garage on Saturday, and are understood to have given the wing the all-clear.

After Ferrari's stunning performance on Saturday the design of their rear wing has been questioned by some teams, although the FIA said the flexible rear wing is completely legal on the Ferrari 248 F1 as it was checked on Saturday morning.

The FIA always checks every car to see if it is completely legal. They measure how flexible the wings are and if it is still within the book.

Pat Symonds told reporters in Bahrain: "I am not at all happy about it. It is very clear what you can or cannot do within the rules. There might be specific rules about specific parts, but there are also general rules and I know exactly what that Ferrari wing does. And that is not what I would expect it should do."

Nice race, good stuff going on all the way through.

Don't know what coverage you guys watch, but here on ITV, Fisichella swore over the team radio when they were telling him about the car problem he had - "It's f***ing s**t" - on national television, hehe!

Also interesting to see the Toro Rosso (the Red Bull No.2 team) with the rev limited 2005 V10 engine whizz by Coulthard in the 2006 Red Bull down the straight.

Things I'm looking forward to this year now I have seen a race?

Schumacher v Alonso
How reliable are McLaren going to be?
Nico Rosberg

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

The basic idea is that the drivers step up to Formula cars. Like you step up from dirt track cars to Nascar. Formula 1 is the best of the best.

Great chess match between Renault and Ferrari.

McLaren clearly have some problems. The car is consistent on long runs but it is no good over short stints (looks like Honda have the same problem). Ferrari and Renault can run out front with a short and quick first stint and hold station.

"Who is Pat Symonds?"
He was saw around Renault's pits lately..
Former M. Schumacher race engineer and current F. Alonso race engineer.

"Alonso was good, Schumi almost, Kimi superb.
I like Alonso, he is boss these days"
Kimi can destroy both. Comfortably.

Bernie impressions about new qualify:

"Good guys getting knocked out makes it more exciting."

And fair...

Oh yes Bernie, but as seen today, some of the 'good guys' can 'race' !

"Schumacher leads Ferrari one-two. Ecclestone, who came up with the new format, added: "It's precisely what I wanted to happen"

I bet on it. DOH

Tell me why is not good on short stints as there wasn't a McLaren short stint today.

Found a "driver of the day" poll
Kimi Raikkonen - 54%
Nico Rosberg - 25%
Michael Schumacher - 9%
Fernando Alonso - 9%
Jenson Button - 2%
..

MS - 9%   from pole to 2nd   LOL

What did Schumi do right today?, he had the pole and lost the race, his attempt to overtake Fernando with five laps to go was just retarded, he wasn't even close, and gave Fernando some 'air' to get the finish line easily. Massa show us all what kind of driver is… unable to keep Alonso behind him even for a single lap. Ferrari can give some great huges to the new tyres rule… I guess there is no more time to blame on 'B', huh Maranello? LOL

Alonso was fine, Massa was a joke for him, nothing new here and Fernando just showing what I had said a long time ago EVEN when Schumi was still winning the championship, he is a better driver than Schumi. Michael' smile at the end was pure fake, he had the pole, he just needed to keep it there, be faster enough and you are done. But Renault folks beated the reads miserablely in which is their best try, strategy… Ross Brawn's face was priceless.

Kimi is the best, anyone who says the opposite is just a fanboy or need to realize it later, look at Jenson today, he was able to overtake Juan Pablo, but he even didn't try it with Kimi, do you know how came that?, it is a easy one.

Then there is nothing more to enjoy… and that is disgusting, a bunch of average drivers luckily enough to get a F1 seat. There are better on active drivers with no F1 seat nowadays, and there are no longer active drivers that could EASILY WIN the champ with a competitive car.

Nice race today. It looks like we may be in for a good season. I hope to see Alonso, Shumi, and Kimi fighting every race. It would be nice to have a 3-way battle for the Championship come Brazil.

True, it makes it harder to overpower a corner and swap ends, but it also penalizes you severely if you make a mistake and lose momentum in a corner. It rewards the most precise drivers as we saw in today's race. The top three most talented drivers (IMHO) finished 1-2-3.

Wake up!! the super tifosi James Allen is talking sense..

""It was a joy to see two such closely matched drivers in such closely matched cars, battling for the win but the real story was less obvious today.

Raikkonen’s performance was astonishing, if you think that he started 17 places behind team-mate Montoya on the grid and yet he finished 18 seconds and two places in front of him!

As I said in my preview the key to this season is the Mercedes engine because if they can get it working as well as the rest of the car, Raikkonen will be uncatchable.

So for all our talk of this being the most open championship for years, it could turn out to be a Raikkonen cake-walk if they sort out the engine, which clearly worked well here""

In a nutshell, you getting a car heavely loaded and only one new set of new tyres to change is the WORST CASE SCENARIO in F1 nowadays, how a man can start from the LAST PLACE and manage to finish third applies to the heroism.

So that poll is not even fair, Michael getting the same 9% than Alonso is a HUGE JOKE, Jenson getting even a 1 per cent is a HUGE JOKE, Nico getting some mention is fair, but 1/4 of the total amount is a HUGE JOKE, Kimi getting just slighty over 50 per cent is THE HOLY MOTHER OF ALL JOKES. I guess most people was indeed blinded by the weird TV coverage or maybe by the nationality of some drivers, sure that was.
