here's the thing, it features a fun sporty red car. little boys will love him immediately and the marketing is obvious. also, nascar's either the first or second most popular sport in the u.s.

it'll be a hit even if the plot sucks.

Not sure if that's necessarily a good thing... Anyways, let's not jump to conclusions just yet.

Let's see some more first. A trailer is a little shallow to make commentary saying "this is a disaster" on.

First mistake: That shitty punk-ish music. Ew.

When I saw The Incredibles teaser last year, I was far from impressed, and actually worried that the movie wouldn't be good.

But I just got back from the theater and The Incredibles was fantastic.

This leaves me with no worries for Cars.

i agree. it's rather premature to make a judgement right now. And knowing Pixar...they will deliver on all fronts. The trailer looks a bit iffy, but from what was written in USA today, it seems like the plot could be really good.

Well sometimes they go in a straight line. That's got to be challenging.

Although I do not care about the movie from that preview, I do care about Pixar's reputation. So I could care less, but I won't care less. Fewer problems at Pixar is fewer problems for Jobs which means potentially more time for Apple-related activities.

I thought it looked pretty cool, but the kids sitting near me at the theater were laughing their freaking heads off! They LOVED the talking cars with the silly voices etc. And I think the racecars are supposed to look fake... that's what nascars look like.... really fake plastic versions of actual production cars. And after all my complaining about Pixar movies in the other thread I was reminded of a Bug's Life by this preview. Now that was a good movie!

I love the U.S., but we need some time apart.

I was concerned about "Cars" when I saw the early teasers . . . it looked lame. But I just watched the new trailer and it looks gorgeous.

Two early reviews are positive. The gist of both is that this isn't their best effort, but around the middle of the pack in terms of Pixar's films so far.

Same here. Animation looks top notch and it looks like quite a story could be hiding in what appeared at first to be a light hearted "talking cars" movie.

I eagerly await release on DVD. (having a two-year old and a 7-month old is NOT conducive to going to the theater.

I think they are just targeting a slightly younger crowd with this one. Little kids love love love cars and trucks and other stuff like that. Especially cars and trucks with faces on them.

After the Incredibles, which skewed a little older, I don't have a problem with them making one that skews a little younger.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

My only problem with it so far is that he's in love with two-years-ago's lame Porsche 911. Why couldn't Porsche have given them a drawing of the new 911's bumpers and lights so his dating wouldn't seem so dated?

Speaking of NASCAR - my friend was informed that his reserved seats at the Lowes Motor Speedway in Charlotte were not 'reserved' for the day before the main event (there is usually a small race one day and the main race the next day) - because the speedway was planning to show the movie 'Cars'...and it somehow interfered with his reserved seats.

He's pissed.

It just now that the quality we were used to with Pixar is now gone and the movies are starting to suck when they will come from Disney.

I'm not sure it *could* be better than the Incredibles. That one was even better than Monsters, Inc., which I thought would be damn near impossible.

I see nothing wrong with the look of Cars. And now someone is crapping on the Incredibles, proving that this thread is filled with people with little to no taste.

I think it will be a great movie. I never liked The Incredibles or Monster trailers and I thought they were going to fail, but I was proven wrong. They were both hits and excellent movies to watch.

I've heard good things thus far about Cars. Every Pixar film has been good. No reason to doubt that this one will be any different.

Just seen it, there were a couple of cringe worthy moments (only perceptible to non Americans)but all in all definitely worth seeing.

Not just a kids movie!

Agreed.

The Incredibles was far too predictable and violent.

What are you talking about? You do realize that Pixar is in control of Disney's animation division now, and that the whole buyout thing was more like a merger? They have complete creative control over everything they do, so Disney's recent suckitude isn't going to have an impact on them.

I do not know how it is going to go; Eisner is not the creative type and he likes to live in a straight jacket; I am afraid all the creativity of Pixar will go to hedoublehockystick and that cars is just the tip of a downroll spiral.
